Chapter 8 - A Formidable Presence

Your face looks funny... - Her dear friend's gestures made Kalina come back to reality in one fell swoop. - I guess everything would be much easier if I could transport people with me, just like my brother. - Syria continued as she approached the pile of used books again. Kalina had not recovered from her stupor yet. No, things wouldn't be easier, and they both knew it. In the first place, that ability was a secret that only the three of them knew. Under no circumstances could it be revealed to anyone.

On the other hand, it was true that Syria's transportation ability had much more range power than Irion's. However, unlike her brother, the girl was not capable of transporting another person. In any case, Kalina didn't know that she had extended her range so much.

"What were you doing there?" Kalina asked: "How could you go to such a dangerous and faraway place?"

I had to travel conventionally first, Kal. But it happens that I did it a long time ago. Anyway, I was not in danger, no one saw me... - Syria replied as if it were obvious. Then she retook her silent language: - Brother sent me this time to verify certain things. You know he thinks he's your father... Anyway, I also wanted to make sure they intend to respect the treaty.

Irion and Syria were checking to ensure her safety. Kalina felt something warm embracing her heart. The siblings were the only family she had left. And it was time to drown her silly crush on Irion. After all, staying silent had been the best thing. Thinking like this, Kalina walked forward and, without saying a word, hugged Syria. "Always be careful." She told her without letting go. Syria had hugged her back, of course. "I don't know what I would do if something happened to you." She could destroy half the world, for starters.

Then Syria gently detached herself from her and communicated again: Kal, I found a formidable presence in Kru. - Kalina looked at her with a grave countenance. According to the manifestos she had read, the emperor's brother was the most powerful warrior among all his people. Then, the Emperor of Aladar himself figured as one of the most imposing presences in terms of strength.

"¿Did you get close to the royals? Syria, ¿did you sneak into the imperial palace? ¿Have you gone crazy?"

Syria laughed in silence for a few seconds until her striking golden eyes turned watery. - I'm not stupid enough to enter the beast's lair, Kal.- Saying this, Syria wiped away a tiny tear that ran down trying to reach her scarred cheek. Kalina knew that the three scars grew deeper towards the lower part of her face until her jaw bone, which had been completely disfigured. Syria had seen the face of death that fateful day, and she had survived. Kaius, on the other hand, had not been so lucky. Kalina tried to divert her thoughts when a shiver ran through her.

It was on my outward journey when I stopped right on the coast of Aladar.- With this message, Syria seemed to regain all her seriousness. - He was a man, kru by his constitution, but I couldn't see his face. He was boarding a boat. He didn't even bother to hide the energy from him… what's more, he unleashed it without any qualms… it was… terrifying.

There it was: Syria could feel the taboo energy. That was an unexpected revelation.

Kal, his energy fluctuated with an exact pattern to yours.- Kalina pushed away any thoughts she might have had in her mind.

Wait, ¿what? "Syria, ¿can you really feel my energy?"

Kal, I think that point has already been made clear... - Syria replied with her signs, so Kalina twisted her eyes. In response, the librarian giggled silently: - Kal, that man - Syria paused as if unknowing how to continue: - I feel like you and him are somehow linked. I have never experienced something like this.

Well, that was something disturbing, at the least.

"Thank you, Syria. I will keep that in mind. But, ¿what do you mean by fluctuation?"

Syria added: - Kal, I can feel an essence in each taboo energy, a unique fluctuation of power, and I have never felt two alike. Never.

Uhh…

"Okay, Syria." Kalina ran a hand over her forehead and brushed away some pink strands that fell past her cheek. "I don't know what that could mean, but I wouldn't give it much importance."

The guy had the greatest energy I've ever felt in my life. - Syria noted: -And I have the disturbing certainty that he was somehow able to feel me... And Kalina, no one can feel me... Anyway, I thought you should know...

"Thank you, Syria. I appreciate your concern, and thanks for ascertaining the mission's security."

Aladar plans to respect the treaty. - Syria continued:- I already informed Irion of the details. You're going to be okay, Kal. The Empress Mother seemed to be a strong and fair person. - Kalina raised an eyebrow while she shook her head, but she continued focusing on Syria's gestures: -The Kru emperor is like a silent and gloomy crypt. He has tight control over his energy, just like my brother. And his power… It was impossible to get close enough to make it justice. On the other hand, if he didn't look like a giant, he would have been totally my type.- Syria finished with a knowing gesture.

And Kalina couldn't help but burst into laughter.
