The sudden death of Smith's mom and funeral coverage were all over the news. I watched with widened eyes as our family portrait flashed across the screen and gnawed my inner cheek. It wasn't even a good picture of us because we were at odds that day. There had been many speculations and rumors about her death, but none were right.
Smith donned a pair of sunglasses when I joined him, his stepdad, and two of his bodyguards in the lobby.
Flashes hit the windows and caught my attention. Reporters. "How many are out there?"
Smith said as he pressed his strong, masculine fingertips into the base of my spine to motion me forward. "I didn't count."
My stomach churned. The media were vicious vultures, making up all kinds of crap about the family. One reporter even presented the possibility of death due to prescription pill abuse. It disgusted me. How was Smith handling this? I only hoped that he didn't pay too much attention.
