What did I do or say?" She questioned herself, her brows furrowing as she couldn't decipher his sudden retreat.
Deep inside, Kate felt a sense of frustration building. Why was he so distant all of a sudden? She believed that she should be the one to assess whether Ray was the right person for her, but his reaction left her puzzled and self-conscious.
Adrenaline still coursed through her veins, partly due to the near miss with the car, but she couldn't ignore the electric charge she felt from the close proximity to Ray. His step backward only intensified her inner turmoil.
"No!" Kate's inner voice screamed as he continued to distance himself. She yearned for him to be bold, to pull her closer by the waist and kiss her. Yet, he did the opposite, as if he had read her mind and chosen not to act on it.
