Academy of Mages and Knights

A prestigious academy that many students go to to learn and excel at magic and swordsmanship. This is the only school in the entire city of Wortac. The majority of students in this education system become the most powerful mages and knights in the city.

'This is a little much for a school.' Chikao thought while looking at the huge, black metal gates with the name of the academy. The gates were not opened which either meant that school was in session or there was no school today.

'Hey system?' Chikao thought while standing to the side and not in the middle of the entire road.

[Whatcha need?]

'Is there any school to today?' Chikao questioned.

[Nope]

Chikao read with a confused expression. Despite what the system had told him, Chikao could see someone in the far distance who was walking towards the gates. The person appeared to be about Chikao's height, but from what Chikao could see, he was still unsure.

'How come someone is inside the school still?'

[How am I supposed to know?]

[I'm not a god] The system window popped out.

Chikao gave the system screen a look before shrugging it off and continuing his thought process.

'Well, I obviously don't know.' Chikao thought. Chikao was still trying to see who the person was by squinting his eyes, which still didn't help him.

[Maybe you should go ask. It looks like they are coming this way]

'Yeah, no shit Sherlock.' Grumbling a bit, Chikao looked down at the surprisingly clean floor, debating what to do. He obviously didn't want to walk over to the person. What was he going to say? Oh hello, person I don't know the gender of you or who you are. What's your name? My name is Chikao Katsunori, I think. Now could you please move to the side so that I could possibly slip into the school to learn something about where the hell I am?

[You know I can hear you?] The system screen popped in front of Chikao's face, but Chikao just continued to think as if nothing happened.

'Oh. And don't mind these blue window things around me. They are just there to try and annoy me as I try to go to school.' Chikao thought sarcastically while showing a very tight-lipped smile and almost rolling his eyes when he heard a voice from behind him.

"May I assist you?" A very stern and strong voice questioned the shorter male, who jumped slightly out of his own skin before turning around.

Turning around, Chikao could see that the person whom the voice belonged to was taller than him and looked to be about 25. This person had blue hair that was tied into a ponytail. Along with the ponytail, the person had semi-short bangs that were hanging to the side of their head. Their hair also had a small dark blue pin and on their face, they were wearing glasses that had black rims and semi-thick glass.

This person also wore a pale blue corset between their chest and their waist with brown buttons. They wore a white long-sleeved shirt that had ruffles coming out in the front of their chest. To pair with the long white sleeves were dark blue gloves on both their hands. Over this was a thin, blue coat that reached from covering the shoulders down to near their thighs. The longest part of the coat that reached down to their legs had a cut in the middle at around the waist area so that there were 2 long endings of the coat. The front of the coat was normal until the above the waist where the fabric started to cut back so that their legs were visible. They wore white dress pants and black dress shoes that made the entire outfit and overall look more professional.

Although the clothes looked quite feminine, Chikao couldn't help but notice that, at least at first glance, he couldn't tell the gender of this person. Not wanting to look too hard, but still curious, Chikao took a slight glance at the chest area of the person, but before he could even lift his glance, the person in question interrupted.

"If you are attempting to figure out my gender, I will have you know that I am biologically male." The supposed male spoke.

"Oh…Oh! I, uh. Well. Um. I couldn't tell." Chikao replied truthfully, not knowing what to say.

"It is alright. I do appreciate your attempt to be polite and not assume. I prefer to be referred to without a gender. As for my pronouns, they/them would be most recommended." The taller said calmly.

"Ah. I'm sorry, um." Chikao who was not used to these terms, but still wanted to be decently polite tried again. Luckily, this person was used to people not being exactly quick to understand.

"My name is Hinata Yukihara. You may call me Professor Yukihara." The professor assisted Chikao who was now starting to understand what the professor was trying to get at.

"Okay. Thank you Professor Yukihara."

"You are very welcome. May I ask of your name now?" The taller inquired.

"My name is Chikao Kastunori." Chikao responded, now accustomed to the previously foreign name.

"Alright, Katsunori. Are you a student here? I must apologize, but I have not seen you during school hours. Are you perhaps a new student?" The teacher asked, still unaware of what this man was doing at the front of the school.

"Well about that," Chikao paused before speaking. "I was interested in this academy." Chikao made eye contact with the professor.

[Nice move] The system popped up behind the teacher so Chikao could read it.

"Since you are interested in this school, I will let you know that I am the headmaster of this prestigious academy of magic and swordsmanship," Yukihara said as they pushed up their glasses a bit.

[Imma add that to my notes real quick]

Without changing expressions, Chikao thought, 'I thought you knew everything about this place?'

[Somethings change and the files don't get updated unless you get info so yeah] The system said as it popped up on the other side of the teacher.

'Adding another reason to my list of 'why a notebook is more helpful than the system' Before the next system window popped up, Chikao was interrupted by the professor continuing to speak.

"On most occasions, I would normally agree, but the school is on break for a certain time period." The teacher seemed to be a bit disappointed after saying this.

"Oh, that's okay. I'll come by another day then." Chikao said while waving his hands in front of his face.

"Oh alright. Come by in about a week," The headmaster said. "I will wait until our next meeting."

"Until next time," Chikao replied as the headmaster started to walk towards the fork in the road, taking her left towards another street. The second that the professor was out of sight, the system started blowing up which made Chikao have to blink 3 times before he could process anything.

'That was the most formal and productive talk I've had since I've gotten here.' Chikao thought, remembering the sudden change in vocabulary that somehow occurred.

[Yeah no shit Sherlock] The system started blinking a bit more than before.

'Hey, why are you getting so mad with me,' Chikao then added. 'I actually sounded like a real detective.'

[Yes, you did, but you are still a prick]

'Oh fuck you.'

[Just continue asking for info cause you need more if you really wanna get any money]

'Fine.'

------------------

Chikao had taken a right at the fork in the road (opposite from the headmaster) and had finally turned into a very crowded area. The sound of conversation and discussion was in the air which was much more welcoming than the quiet, lonely streets near the academy. Chikao took out the small folded map that was in his pocket.

"Let's see," Chikao mumbled while looking at the map to see where they were. "It seems like we are at the adventurers guild."

[That's a good start]

[This place is probably overflowing with info]

'Do I really have to talk to these strangers?' Chikao thought while looking around awkwardly.

[Do you want money?]

'Never mind.' Changing his mind at the mention of money, Chikao started to walk around before overhearing a conversation that piqued his interest. Standing near the group, but not too close, he started to listen in.

[Stalker much]

'Shut up.'

"Hey, have you heard from Taijo recently?" One of the smaller dudes in the group asked.

"Not since last night when we got ambushed by that one person." One of the bigger males replied.

"What was that other person demanding again? I couldn't hear over the crowd." Another group member asked.

"I think it was something about ending a deal." The same taller dude said.

"Yeah. Taijo was really mad when he heard what that weird person said," A younger group member responded while chuckling to himself. "I've never seen him so mad before.

"I think it was something about wind steroids?" The first smaller male of the group asked again.

"Probably." One of the quieter ones in the group said.

"Didn't we tell him it was bad business?" The person who chuckled earlier commented again.

"We did, but you know how he is when it comes to getting a bit more money." The quieter one said, rolling his eyes this time.

"Yeah." The bigger male finished the conversation.

Back with Chikao, he was thinking about what he had just heard. Taijo? Wind Steriods? Why did they sound so worried? Did something happen to that one person they were talking about? Was there a fight? Could someone have possibly died?

[This sounds like a case that a detective would solve]

'Yeah and how am I supposed to do that if I don't know what the fuck I am doing?'

[Hey you're the detective here]

'You're an asshole.'

[Whatever you say]
