Nyx woke up the next morning, looking across the burnt out fire, seeing Liam was still asleep. She decided to get up and take a swim. She ate a quick snack and drank some water, standing up she patted her horse on the neck walking away towards the river. She stared at her reflection, before closing her eyes and just falling in. The water wasn't hot or cold, it was just right and refreshing.
Liam heard the splash and quickly jumped up, running to the river, seeing Nyx under. He quickly jumped in pulling her out, tossing her onto the soft grass.
"What the hell were you thinking!" He said, grabbing her face and arms checking to make sure she was alright.
Nyx pulled away. "What do you mean I'm alright, I just wanted to take a swim." She said, trying to figure out what the big deal was.
Liam looked side to side, making sure no one saw. "That's Fae territory." He said, holding both of Nyx's shoulders.
"Fae?" She questioned.
Liam looked at her blankly. "Fae's, Fairy's, the tricksters." He said, trying to see if she knew anything.
Nyx gently shook her head, not knowing anything about those creatures. Liam dropped his shoulders, relaxing a bit since she was out of the water.
"Fae's. They are tricksters. They are neither good nor bad." He said helping Nyx up from the ground. "Sometimes they will help you, but other times they just play games with you, messing up your trail." He finished, sitting Nyx on her horse.
"I thought they were a myth." She said, looking at Liam.
"There are many things that the humans believe as myths, that are real." He said, giving a gentle smile.
"Now we should get a move on before they find out you fell in the water." He said, as he saddled his horse.
"They can tell if someone fell in the water?" Nyx asked, looking down in the water.
"Yes, they are quite picky about what goes on with their territory, and if they find it different from what they like they will do anything just to fix it." He explained.
"How do we cross then?" Nyx asked.
Liam looked back at Nyx, then taking his finger, he pointed down the river to a bridge. The bridge was covered in thick leaves, and the waterfall went down part of the middle of the bridge.
"We will cross the bridge, but we will need to do it quietly, so as to not disturb the Fae's." He said, as he began to lead the way.
They traveled quietly to the bridge, getting partially wet from the waterfall. Nyx tried looking ahead as Liam suddenly stopped. Nyx looked at Liam who was looking around cautiously, looking for any stray Fae's. He then turned around tying a rope around Nyx's horse connecting to his.
"Try to stay close." He said, as he commanded his horse to run.
They began to run, ducking underneath branches. Everything was going smoothly until a beautiful woman jumped in the way, causing them to come to a halt. It caused their bodies to jerk as Nyx grunted from the sudden stop.
"Well hello guests." The woman said, tilting her head.
"Move out of the way Fae!" He said, trying to control his horse, who was freaking out.
The fae's smile disappeared as she stood up touching Liam's horse making it calm down. Her eyes then shot to Nyx.
"What a rare beauty you have found Liam." She said, grabbing Nyx's hair.
"We are just passing by." Liam said, as the Fae got closer to him.
"Oh no you can't just pass by, you have to do something for us Fae's before you can just trespass on our land." She said, ending with an angry tone.
"You know the rules, Angel of Death." She said, grabbing Liam's chin, making him pull away.
"Just tell us what you need help with and we'll leave." Nyx said confidently, causing the Fae to look right at her.
"She has confidence." She said, as a smile formed across her face. She then laughed. "Right this way, my angels." She said, walking through a bushy opening.
Liam then got off his horse grabbing his weapons, Nyx did the same.
"Are we going to be alright?" Nyx asked, looking at Liam, who looked pissed about having to help the Fae's.
He looked at her, seeing how noticeable his eyes were. Seeing his expression, she nodded her head taking out a black cloth wrapping her eyes, hiding her golden feature. Liam then took her hand which made Nyx's heart start racing. She knew how to find her way around things even blind folded, but she thought Liam really wanted to hide her golden eyes. They walked for about five minutes until they reached a crowded Fae area. Everyone was so colorful and vibrant, even the males were colorful and vibrant. Nyx began to wonder why Liam didn't like the Fae's, he said they were like tricksters, but so are humans. They continued to follow the woman Fae, as everybody began to stare as they passed by.
"So you don't remember my name?" The woman said, causing Liam to stiffen around Nyx's hand.
"It's not that I don't remember, it's just I was choosing to forget it, and this place." He said, sounding annoyed and disgusted.
Nyx squeezed his hand, warning him not to anger any Fae, for they didn't know what they had planned. Liam squeezed her hand back, understanding her concern.
"Look I'm sorry I don't remember your name, but we have a really important place to be." He said, causing the woman to look back.
"You're so afraid of love my dear." She said, caressing his face.
"I'm not scared, it's just not possible for me." He said, his tone deepening, and moving away.
The woman Fae then leaned closer to Liam. "It always works out." She said looking at Nyx, causing Liam to look.
"Does she not know what happened the last time you were here?" The woman asked, continuing to walk forward.
"No, she doesn't. It's not a concern right now." He said, following the woman, who kept antagonizing Liam.
They finally made it to the castle, where the leader of the Fae was waiting for their arrival.
"Ah! Our old friend." A voice boomed out causing Nyx to flinch. "It's been so long my friend, what brought you here to the land of the fae's?" The man asked.
Liam pulled Nyx closer so as to not lose her, as Nyx began to blush more.
"We were told if we wanted to pass by then we had to help you with something sir." Liam said, causing the leader of the Fae's to let out a booming laugh.
"Ha-ha-ha, who told you this, my helpful friend?" The fae laughed, as Liam pointed to the woman Fae.
"Ah yes, Annie." He laughed some more. "You should remember, Annie loves to play games." He said, calming down his laughter.
"Who is this young beauty you have brought with you, Liam?" The man asked, causing Liam to flinch.
"Th-this is my girlfriend." He said, causing everyone, even Nyx to stare at him, as he pulled her closer to him.
The man sat back in his throne, staring at Nyx then at Liam. He knew he was lying and wanted to know why. Angels and celestial beings are very valuable to the Faes, Liam was an angel but the angel of death, which scared the Faes. The Fae loved things that were beautiful, not things that caused destruction or death.
"How about y'all stay the night, and help around the village, then you can be on your way tomorrow morning." The man asked, looking down at Liam.
Liam pushed his head up high. "We really can't, we have orders to gather information about demons and vampires." Liam said with a snarky attitude.
"Good luck finding a way out." The man said, as the guards began to block the doors.
"We'll stay." Nyx blurted out, causing the whole room to stare at her.
"I've always had so many questions about Fae's." She said, looking up at the direction of the Fae leader.
The Fae leader had a mischievous smile form across his face, causing Liam to fume with anger, Liam then turned around holding Nyx in a partial hug. "Stay close to me at all times." He said sternly. Nyx nodded, and began to follow Liam very closely, sensing the Leader was always watching.
