Ezra felt nervous in front of the number of people watching. The people in the stadium aren't very much, but the media is here meaning this would be watched by hundreds, or probably thousands of people.
What if he messes up? Or worse, what if he sweats too much nervously and the makeup covering the upper side of his neck cleans off? What if his posture is wrong because of his back?
His mind was all over the place. He heard his name getting announced and he took a deep breath. If he could at least get fifth place then he's going to be very happy, and so that's what he aimed for.
