Chapter 69 - Intra- Department Exam

The atmosphere in the exam room was filled with focused concentration as every student sat at their desks, diligently writing the first part of the Intra department exam on their holographic screens. Some furiously typed, while others delicately used styluses to inscribe their answers. The low hum of keystrokes and the occasional tap of a stylus against a screen created a rhythmic symphony that enveloped the room.

As the final seconds of the allotted time ticked away, a chime resonated, and every holographic screen promptly locked. The papers were submitted, and a collective sigh of relief rippled through the room. Professor Savant, the general studies teacher, stood at the front of the room, addressing the students.

"Now that the first part of the Intra department exam is over, you must all proceed to the seminar hall—the same hall where you had your orientation," Professor Savant announced. He typed something on his tablet, looking up with a genuine smile. "Good luck with your Practicals. See you next week."

The students gathered their belongings and filed out of the exam room, making their way to the familiar seminar hall. It was a space filled with both nostalgia from their orientation and the anticipation of what awaited them in the practical phase of the exam.

Ahiro and Melvin found themselves walking together, and soon, Emily joined them. The trio was later joined by John and Sia, forming a group that shared a camaraderie forged through shared experiences at Valorius Academy.

In the spacious seminar hall, the students found their seats, each desk equipped with the necessary tools and holographic displays. The atmosphere was a blend of tension and anticipation, yet the camaraderie among the students helped alleviate some of the pressure.

The seating arrangement allowed flexibility, and the group, consisting of Ahiro, Melvin, Emily, John, and Sia, opted for a spot in the middle row, not too far from the stage where their practical assessments would unfold.

Melvin, always one to initiate conversations, broke the quiet atmosphere. "The exam was a tough one for our Explorer department. How about the rest of you?" he inquired, directing his question to Emily first.

Emily, with a thoughtful expression, responded, "For the Seekers' department, we have only a small practical exam. But that's just a formality. The rest of the week is filled with even more theoretical exams." Her words carried a tinge of reluctance, revealing a preference for the theoretical aspects over the practical challenges.

Ahiro, keenly observing the dynamics of the conversation, added, "At least, we get a bit of a break from the theoretical side in the Explorer department. The practical exams keep things interesting, don't they?"

Sia, who had been listening quietly, interjected, "In the Strikers department, it's a mix of both practical and theoretical exams. The practicals are challenging, but I find them more engaging than sitting through theory all week."

John, who had been absorbed in reading some notes on his holographic screen, looked up and joined the conversation. "I agree with Sia. The practicals give us a chance to apply what we've learned in a more hands-on way. It's a refreshing change from constant theory."

As the students exchanged their thoughts and experiences with the exams, the seminar hall buzzed with a collective energy. Each department had its unique approach to assessments, and the diversity of experiences added a layer of intrigue to the ongoing exams.

Lucius Ebonheart, the headteacher of Valorius Academy, teleported before the assembled students. His presence commanded immediate attention, and a hushed silence fell over the hall as he prepared to address the eager audience.

"Good afternoon, students," he began, his voice resonating with authority. "I trust you've all settled into your respective routines and are on the path to becoming more proficient in your awakened abilities."

He continued, "The journey of an awakened is long and challenging, filled with difficulties. However, here at Valorius Academy, we strive to not only make this process easier but also to enhance it, ensuring that your growth surpasses that of others."

The students listened attentively, their eyes focused on the headteacher as he set the tone for the upcoming discussion.

"Now, without further ado, I'd like to brief you on the rules of the upcoming duel," Lucius Ebonheart declared, signalling the transition to a topic that held the students' undivided attention.

"As you prepare for the duel, keep in mind that this is an opportunity not only to demonstrate your individual strengths but also to learn from one another," he advised. "Each duel is a chance for growth, both as individuals and as a collective awakened community."

Lucius Ebonheart continued to address the eager students, laying out the rules for the upcoming duels with a sense of gravitas that captured their attention.

"Now, the rules are as follows: Except for the Seeker department, the rules for the Explorer and Striker departments are the same," he announced, ensuring clarity from the outset.

"The tournament structure will consist of two brackets, A and B for each department. We'll have duels until a total of four participants from each department reach the semifinals, followed by the ultimate showdown in the final," Lucius explained. "Of course, to advance to the final, you must emerge victorious in all your matches."

A murmur of excitement and anticipation rippled through the students as they absorbed the information about the tournament structure.

"The brackets, along with the date and time of your respective matches, will be sent to you," Lucius continued, a smile playing on his lips.

"Lastly, I wish you all the best, and I hope to witness fair and competitive matches. Of course, any form of malpractice is strongly discouraged. If you have the courage to try, remember that Valorius Academy upholds the highest standards of integrity," he concluded.

With those words, Lucius Ebonheart set the stage for an exciting series of duels that would test the student's abilities and determination. As Mr Ebonheart concluded his speech, the students dispersed from the hall, and their energy channelled into different directions. Some, fueled with determination, headed to the training hall for last-minute practice, eager to refine their skills. Others, perhaps feeling the need for a moment of solitude or rest, made their way to their dorm rooms.

Ahiro turned to his friends, his curiosity piqued. "So, what are you all planning to do?" he inquired.

Sia, with a focused expression, replied, "I'm going to practice in the training hall with John. We need to be in top form for the duels."

Melvin, ever the enthusiast, declared, "I'm heading to the cafeteria for some snacks. Anyone want anything?" The collective response was a unanimous "no," and Ahiro, after a brief pause, mentioned, "I think I'm going to retire to the dorm room for now."
