Chapter 49 - Part III Chapter 45: Dark vs Light

two months later

Standing across from the army of darkness, once again, like every day for the past two months. The landscape around us was shattered beyond recognition, with craters, sinkholes filled with magma, and mountains wiped from existence.

Shyri whispered from beside me," When will they attack?"

I answered, glancing at the setting sun," Most likely in the next few minutes, the sun sets in about five minutes. Requiem is anything but stupid; he plans to use the new moon's advantage; with complete darkness, he will blend in much better. I will stick out like a sore thumb."

Slyrak growled," Then attack him now!"

I responded," Slyrak, calm down; by the time the battle starts, we will already be at a disadvantage. Use the light of fires, sense the heat signatures of the dark creatures, the movement through the wind, use your senses, hearing and smell. At the same time, our eyes are not as helpful in this fight. Our senses become stronger when we cannot use one of them."

A howl came from the darkness as I whispered," We will keep fighting."

Requiem moved forward as I did the same; the next, we both took off, breaking the sound barrier clashing. I sensed a change in his darkness as they took the form of wings, grimacing at the bad memory.

He questioned," I sense you have bad memories with the form I made my darkness into?"

I snorted," Must we talk every time we fight? But to answer your question, Unla nearly killed me in our first 'fight' with those wings."

Sensing his mind barely perk up, he answered," Yeah, I figured, and yep, I quite like talking to you."

Knowing where he was, I probed," Do we need to fight each other?"

He answered," Sadly, yes, I wish we didn't have to fight each other, but my king and father ordered me to do so."

That surprised me as that furthered my determination to reach my family's goal, peace.

I felt the wind shift as I flared my flames surrounding me like a miniature sun, lighting up the sky as I felt something enter the area, and I knew it was Requiem.

Spinning around, I slammed my tail into his face while his dark wings flicked into a spear, piercing my side and sharpening my feathers. I nailed him as he let go with a yelp from the shock. Then, feeling my wounds heal, I released a tendril of lightning, electrocuting him as he snarled," Little birdy, your lightning won't work on me!"

I glared at him," Two things, you blind nincompoop the first, I am multiple times bigger than phoenixes. The second, do you take me for an idiot?"

He froze as he suddenly started falling, and I dove down after him. Getting ready to drive a talon home in his stomach, he recovered much faster than I thought. Slamming into him, I drove him to the ground, causing the ground to explode as yet another crater formed. The ground was destroyed from all the clashes we had done.

Requiem snarled while we leaped away from each other," I am starting to hate your regeneration."

I snorted," Oh, I also hate yours."

Rushing forward, I covered myself in flames as I collided with him, sending him howling with pain from the contact.

He released a pulse of darkness, sending me into the air; with lightning flickering along with my wings, I sent a powerful gust of hurricane-force winds down on him, slamming him into the ground further. He morphed his darkness into a giant claw, ripping a giant boulder out even with the pressure of the wind.

He howled," Here is a boulder!"

He flung the boulder as I whispered," That won't work. Spirit barrier."

The boulder shattered the moment it came within range of the barrier.

A whistling sound came from behind me as I smelled the faint smell of anger.

Massive power pulses were released as Requiem snarled," Let me show you what I can do in my equilibrium form."

I knew I couldn't go into my equipollence form without causing collateral damage. However, I did not want to hurt my allies, so I yelled," Soldiers of the Haven, fall back! A battle of equilibria is about to ensue!"

I sensed fear, apprehension, and dread as I began to tap into my equipollence. Shockwaves of energy were released while we reached our full power.

There seemed to be the gravity of the power releasing, causing the ground and sky to shake. From what I could tell, he was surrounded by darkness as it suddenly cleared; a shadow form of him stood as I pulled hard and released my power. In the next instant, an explosion of energy lit up the night sky.

Blue flames were curling off my body while I spoke, a calm voice filled with power," Shall we continue this now, Requiem?"

Requiem's dark form wavered slightly, and I sensed uncertainty in him for the first time in all of this.

That feeling vanished as I took this moment to act, obliterate his army. Releasing a massive sphere of flames, I incinerated the entire army of darkness as Requiem unfroze, releasing his sphere of darkness that clashed with my power.

Manipulating the gravity of my form, Requiem howled in pain while he slammed against the flames of the sun. Then, finally, he growled," How are you doing this?"

I questioned," What is the biggest thing in the solar system?"

I could sense realization," The sun."

Arrows of light came rushing from me toward Requiem while I used gravity to send him directly into the spears of light. However, tendrils of darkness swatted them away. Then, turning the tables on me, he closed the distance, but with him being closer, he slammed his tail into me while he yowled in pain and sent me to the ground. The ground melted on impact due to the temperature as I growled," Well, Requiem, you cannot touch me without harming yourself."

I was amassing my flames, lightning, and wind in my mouth to fire at him. Feeling them condense into a point, I released the ball of three of my four elements as he dodged it and watched it disappear into the horizon. An explosion flared, illuminating the night sky again; Requiem had fear now.

Jumping into the air, I hovered across from him; in the distance, I could see smoke in the direction of the human's territory. I knew anyone in that area was vaporized from my attack. He turned towards me and snarled," We will fight again soon."

He disappeared into shadows as I reverted to normal, drained of energy; the first battle of Dark and Light ended with our victory. A small step towards my goal.
