Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Painted Red

Five Minutes Earlier:

As Lily chased Ryder down the alleyway, Ryder's hair swinging through the smooth air and Lily running with all her might and determination, she suddenly spotted a person out of the corner of her eye.

"Ryder, watch out!" she yelled, but Ryder was too far ahead to hear her fully, so he instinctively turned his head. This way, however, the opposite of what Lily wanted him to, as he no longer could see that someone was right in front of him.

In what seemed to be a blink of an eye, the two people collided. Looking back to see what hit him, Ryder's emerald eyes suddenly flew open, realizing what he had just done. He had to run. Now. So he turned around, about to run, but Lily was fully blocking him, and the old lady behind him was too big to avoid since the alleyway was narrow. Suddenly, the old lady started bleeding, as was visible to Lily, and she frantically looked through her pockets to try to find anything that could help, yet to no avail.

"Cough… Cough… Someone… help…" the old lady coughed out, sounding as if she was on her deathbed.

"Ryder, do you have any pieces of cloth with you?" Lily quickly screamed out, biting her lips as she was examining the lady's wound. Ryder searched his pockets, including his back ones, but found nothing that would be of use. And suddenly, the lady's chest stayed flat for a second. Two seconds. Three seconds. Was she still breathing? Lily, having paid attention to books and school, knew CPR, to Ryder's later surprise, so she got on her knees and started. Around thirty seconds later, because the old lady had just passed out, she was back to normal breathing.

After opening her eyes, she looked around, as if trying to see if something was there. When she saw Lily, she thanked her over and over again, but when she saw Ryder, something clicked in her, and she screeched louder than an old lady should ever be able to.
