Chapter 11 - The First Dream

I drifted to sleep quickly after drinking the tea Evanil had Nanny Emilia make for me. It was sweet, and was just warm enough to slowly gulp down my throat. Very relaxing.

In my dream, I was being pushed on a swing by someone with a soft, tender voice.

"Theodosia you must stretch your legs out!" It laughed, "you'll never gain any momentum silly."

"But it's scary!" I whined.

That's weird. I didn't want to say that.

"I know it's scary sweetheart." It replied "But sometimes we have to do scary things to enjoy the fun things in life."

Hm. She's not wrong.

"Like how scary it is for you to leave?" I said twisting my fingers in my lap "Things have gotten really bad. Father says the monsters are even stronger. What if you get hurt or worse! Can't you not go?"

I felt an empathetic hand on my shoulder. I turned my head to see who was pushing me, and I saw a woman with dark hair and pale green eyes. She smiled down at me and hugged me. Is this? My mother?

I had forgotten…her face.

"Your father should really stop talking business with you." She groaned "I have a duty to our kingdom and the empire to help get rid of the dark magic. I can't not go."

"But what about your duty to me?" I asked "What if you're not home by my birthday? You promised we'd go to the villa together!"

"And we will sweetheart." She smiled holding out her pinky finger "Trust me. Wanna pinky promise?

I nodded. "I promise."

She kissed my forehead and said, "I love you."

"I love you too," I said.

She smiled and then I woke up.

I got out of bed and went to a nearby window wiping my face. It was a wreck with tears. I saw my Nanny Emilia watering some plants. She looked up at me and waved before putting her bucket down and running inside.

She tumbled into my room worried.

"Are you okay princess?" She asked.

"May I have some water?" I replied "I'm very thirsty. I must've sweat a lot in my sleep."

"It can get a bit warm at night." She said before rushing off "I'll get you some water. Sit for right now!"

I sat on my bed. I thought about my mother and the dream. I wondered why she had come to me in my dream.

I closed my eyes and tried to remember the dream as much as I could. I remembered the woman's soft voice, her warm smile.

I will never forget it and I'm happy I never forgot my mother. She had given me the strength to overcome any obstacle, and I would never let her down. These precious memories won't be forgotten again.
