Thank God! But I came back to my senses later when I remembered that the real threat might be looking for me already. I scrambled to my feet and rushed through the forest, not even caring where I landed or where am going. I stopped a while later after walking for what seems like hours. I sat down on the floor and unwrapped the food when it felt like I would pass out from hunger. I ate the food so quickly that my stomach grumbled in protest. When I was through, I started strategizing on how I wanted to survive. One thing is certain, I needed a place to stay and a job to survive. I sighed feeling lonely and I wished at least my brother was here if I couldn't see my parents again. I could feel my eyes burning with tears and I chastened myself. Now's not the time to weep as I only needed to survive right now I could weep later. I decided to rest for sometime in this forest before I continued on my journey. And I fell asleep too thinking of two people:My brother and the Burning eyes man.
Morning came all too soon and I was up before the sun. I continued my walk from the forest and after sometime I reached the town. I didn't even know which town I was in all I knew was that I was finally able to see a town busy with people. I wandered around the town asking anyone I see for any available job. By nightfall, I still wasn't lucky and I didn't have anywhere to go. I decided to walk a bit more maybe I could get lucky this time.
I walked over to a house that seemed deserted and I decided to sleep on the balcony till morning. I lay down on the balcony and before long I was asleep. But I awoke later to the feel of a booth kicking my head and I woke up startled, I quickly stood up to look at the person and I saw it was a man. A young man. He had a broad chest and was somewhat shabby looking But something about the person looks familiar.
"Why are you out here late miss?", The man asked, rather than replying I moved closer to him and our eyes met, I saw recognition dawn in his eyes.
"Kemora?" He asked astonished. "Lisaka" I shouted and hugged him. I was so happy to have someone I know. Lisaka was my brother's best friend until he disappeared from the village and rumors had it that he went to work. Although I somewhat don't like the way he usually look at me like I was a candy, I look up to him as my elder brother.
"Why are you here?" He asked but I wasn't in the mood to answer any question that moment.
"Are you the one living here?" I asked eager to go inside and warm myself up. He nodded and turned to the door to open it with the key he took from his pocket. I quickly followed him inside, abandoning my dirty piece of clothing outside.
The sitting room consisted of only two rocking chairs sitting by the fireplace and a small table in a corner, other than that there wasn't any other thing there again.
"You can take the bedroom" Lisaka said, gesturing to the open door beside the kitchen." And there's a bathroom in there okay? When you're through, you come to the kitchen I'll make you something"
" Thank you so much Lisaka"I thanked him but he just nodded and turned to the kitchen.
After a few minutes spent in the bathroom, washing and grooming my body, I came out and was greeted by a very delicious aroma and my stomach grumbled. I quickly rushed to the kitchen and settled myself at the small chair by the counter where the food was placed. It was only after eating some spoonfuls of food did I then realize that Lisaka was sitting beside the stove.
"So... you're ready to talk now?" I looked up thinking to tell him no but then I thought what was the use in hiding it any longer. I took a deep breath and began telling him everything.
