Chapter 4 - The Unveiling memories

He asked her in a gentle but full curiosity "What is the meaning of this painting, Lilly?",

but upon hearing it, frustration seized Lilly. She even doesn't know what she is drawing but when she looks at it seems as if something from the painting is looking at her with revenge.

She stood frozen, mute, as the malevolent voice echoed, "Why did you do that?" Her helplessness triggered uncontrollable shivers, and in Noah's concern, he called out louder, urgently trying to reach her. In desperation, he shook her slightly, his warm touch cutting through her cold fear.

Providing water, he eased her back to awareness, only for her to find the classroom's eyes upon them.

Amid the scrutiny, he grasped her hand, leading her away from prying gazes. As her mind slowly caught up, his touch left her dazed, her thoughts adrift.

He guided her to a park, where her senses began to clear. Amid her awakening, she confronted him, demanding to be released and demanding answers. "Who are you holding my hands, When do you have this much power over me ?" she questioned, her voice tinged with unease

He responded with a hint of disappointment, his question laden with meaning, "Does it matter who I am and what power I have on you?"

Lilly's response was immediate, she retrieved fit from his and looked at him with anger.

His retort was cryptic, suggesting "Lilly if you want to know who I am, then ask for yourself you will find the answer".

Frustration boiled within her, prompting a muttered curse by saying"What the heck. how should I know you. it's my first time seeing you ." after hearing that to her surprise, his lips curled into a smile, as though he relished her fiery words as a delicacy.

The park, a haven of tranquillity, lay before them. Its solitude offered respite from the world, a sanctuary untouched by the hustle of life. An ageing bench stood sentinel, inviting Lilly to find solace upon its worn surface.

As she seated herself, Noah settled nearby, his presence both a comfort and a riddle. "why are you sitting here now? Just leave me alone for some time, Noah ".

When her terse words bade him leave, his observant gaze caught the tremor in her form, a testament to the chill wind that swept the surroundings.

In her lightweight, loose-fitting top, Lilly found no defence against the biting breeze. The fabric mirrored the shade of her lips, a tender pink that contrasted with her furrowed brow. Emerald eyes scoured the recesses of her memory, struggling to piece together the puzzle that was Noah.

When his gaze met hers, an indignant flare ignited in her eyes, only to be met with his enigmatic smile. A gesture, seemingly innocent, brought forth his overcoat, a shield against the cold.

He retreated, his steps vanishing into the distance.

Lilly remained behind, the folds of the overcoat embracing her like a whisper of his presence. She gazed in the direction he had gone, the park's silence a canvas upon which questions were painted.

Uncertainty lingered in her heart, a cloak of mystery draped over the enigmatic figure who had stirred her curiosity. In his eyes, she sensed a story untold, a riddle awaiting unravelling, an echo that resonated within her soul.

Seated on the bench, Lilly's gaze remained fixed on the discarded overcoat, her thoughts consumed by the enigma that had entered her life.

Time slipped away unnoticed, irrelevant in the face of the mysteries that swirled around her. The world beyond the park seemed to fade, leaving her alone with her thoughts and the silent questions that echoed within.

As her fingers brushed against the fabric of the overcoat, a fleeting memory surfaced — the touch of his hand against her skin. Strangely, the malevolent voice that had tormented her receded in the presence of his lingering touch.

Her mind churned with one central question: Who was he? The elusive figure who had appeared with such unfathomable grace left an indelible mark on her thoughts.

In the stillness of the park, Lilly grappled with the fragments of the encounter. Her mind raced, trying to connect the dots that remained scattered.

The unanswered question loomed large: How did she know him? Memories and emotions intertwined, each layer adding to the paradox that surrounded him. Her thoughts resembled a mosaic of unanswered queries, a puzzle she felt compelled to solve.

Amid the quiet solitude of the park, Lilly found herself entangled in a web of uncertainty. The overcoat, a physical reminder of his presence, seemed to hold more secrets than it revealed. She yearned for answers, aching to uncover the truth behind the mysterious stranger who had ignited a fire of curiosity within her.

As he embarked on his journey back home, a faint smile graced his lips, a silent testament to the hidden joy that seemed to dance in his thoughts. His mood held a touch of something hidden, a secret emotion that hinted at a narrative yet to unfold.

His mind retraced the steps of the day, the encounters, the exchanges, and the atmosphere of mystery that enveloped them.

Among his recollections, one image stood out like a vivid brushstroke on a canvas — the memory of her. He couldn't help but recall the sensation of her cold skin against his fingertips, the delicate barrier of thin fabric offering little protection from the chill. That simple touch had left an indelible mark, a connection forged in that fleeting moment.

And so, with his thoughts ensnared by the events that had transpired, he walked with a measured gait, the curve of his smile concealing the myriad thoughts that occupied his mind

Upon reaching his home, his eyes fell upon a woman standing in the corridor. Aged in her fifties, her eyes mirrored his shade of blue, but now they held an emptiness that spoke of deep sorrow.

Clad in a gown, her appearance conveyed an ethereal fragility that tugged at his heartstrings. The smile that had adorned his face moments ago faded, replaced by an unmistakable sadness that clouded his gaze.

A question escaped his lips, laden with concern, "Why are you here?" Her gaze met his with a tenderness that seemed to reach beyond words.

In a voice that trembled with the weight of emotion, she implored, "Come with me. I can't bear this burden alone. I'm weary, and the weight of it all is too much to bear. She's gone, my dear. Everyone will go eventually, but she left a little too soon." Her voice faltered, her heartache palpable.

As her words settled in, a realization swept over him. A heavy sigh escaped him, and he blinked back tears, his once oceanic eyes now clouded with grief.

He struggled to meet her gaze, his emotions threatening to overflow. Without a word, he turned away and entered the house, closing the door behind him.

Seated by the entrance, he let his tears flow freely, his sobs echoing in the quiet surroundings. He mourned the loss that had now become an inescapable reality.

With the woman's words echoing in his ears, he clutched his cap tightly and resolutely stepped outside, a solitary figure cloaked in a mix of sorrow and determination.
