Catherine was in her office, diligently working on the last batch of files she had been tackling for the past two days. Her deadline was to submit these files to Daniel by 6 PM before leaving for the day.
As she was immersed in her work, her phone rang. Catherine muttered irritably to herself as she retrieved her phone from her handbag.
"Who could it be now?" Catherine grumbled, her eyes still fixed on the file before her. She picked up the call, and it turned out to be the secretary.
"Hello, Christine. How are you doing?" Catherine inquired while continuing to focus on her file.
"Fine, Catherine. There's someone here to see you. She said her name is Lucy," Christine informed Catherine.
"What?!" Catherine exclaimed in surprise. "Please, show her into my office," Catherine requested of the secretary before ending the call.
A few minutes later, Catherine heard a knock at her door, and she gave the person permission to enter.
Lucy walked in, and Catherine scrutinized her expressions to determine her intentions. It was evident from Lucy's demeanor that she came in peace.
"Hello, Catherine. How are you?" Lucy greeted her warmly, but Catherine maintained a neutral expression.
"Hello, Lucy. How can I assist you?" Catherine asked with a composed tone.
Lucy hesitated before speaking, "Could you please allow me to sit down?"
Catherine looked at her for a moment before gesturing for her to take a seat.
"So, Catherine, what can I do for you?" Catherine asked Lucy once more, her expression remaining unchanged.
Lucy finally spoke, "Catherine, I've come to ask for your forgiveness."
Catherine widened her eyes in surprise. "What?! Is this some kind of joke?" she asked incredulously.
Lucy shook her head, "Catherine, I know I tried to come between you and Jerry, even though I was aware that you were already together. I'm deeply sorry for my actions. I regret them, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me."
Catherine studied Lucy's eyes to gauge her sincerity. From Lucy's expressions, it was clear that she was genuine.
"Why are you doing this? Don't you want Jerry anymore?" Catherine inquired with curiosity.
Lucy responded, "I won't deny that I still love Jerry, and he's the reason I came back to New York. But in life, some things can't be lost twice. I was the one who broke up with Jerry, and honestly, I can't win him back now. It's clear that you and he are meant for each other, and no one can come between you. I refused to accept that, but I've had to learn it the hard way."
Catherine asked, "What do you mean by 'the hard way'? Can you explain?"
Lucy replied, "That's a story for another time, not today."
Catherine, after some thought, smiled and said, "Yes, I forgive you. You came and apologized, which isn't easy for everyone to do."
Lucy sighed in relief, "Thank you, Catherine. I feel like a heavy burden has been lifted from my shoulders."
Lucy then made another request, "Can I ask one more favor? Can you help me talk to Jerry? He refuses to see me."
Catherine assured her, "I'll try to talk to him."
Lucy expressed her gratitude, "Thank you so much, Catherine. You have a good heart."
With that, Lucy decided to leave, standing up from the chair. As she headed towards the door, she commented on Catherine's beautiful ring.
"Thanks, and have a nice day," Catherine bid her farewell.
"Same to you," Lucy replied before exiting the office. Catherine leaned back in her chair, her mind filled with thoughts about Lucy's apology and intentions.
While she contemplated, Chris, in his office, noticed a video Catherine had posted on her social media. He watched as it revealed Jerry's proposal to Catherine. Enraged, Chris threw his phone against the wall, leaving the screen blank.
"Jerry, why must you always interfere?" Chris muttered angrily to himself. "First, I couldn't become one of the shareholders of your father's company because of you, and now, when I'm finally getting closer to Catherine, you become another obstacle. I won't allow that," Chris fumed.
Afterward, Chris picked up his second phone and dialed Catherine's number. She answered after a few rings.
"Hello, who is this?" Catherine asked.
"Hello, Catherine. It's Chris. How are you?" Chris inquired, attempting to control his temper.
Catherine, not recognizing the number, apologized, "I'm fine, Chris. Sorry, I didn't recognize the number."
"No problem, Catherine. I saw the video you posted. Congratulations," Chris said.
"Thanks a lot, Chris," Catherine replied. The silence that followed made her realize Chris's displeasure.
"Chris, I apologize for not informing you about it. I had intended to, but I forgot," Catherine explained.
"No problem, Catherine. I understand. Congratulations once again," Chris responded before ending the call.
Chris then made another call to a different number. The person on the other end picked up promptly.
"Hello, Chris. Are you still alive?" the person teased.
"Jeff, what's the meaning of that question?" Chris retorted angrily.
"Come on, Chris, can't someone joke with you anymore? It's been nearly a year since you called my phone. I even thought you lost my number," Jeff remarked.
"I didn't lose your number. You know I only call you for special missions," Chris reminded him.
"Yes, I'm aware. What do you need?" Jeff inquired.
Chris replied, "It's not something we can discuss over the phone. I'll meet you at our usual spot at five PM. Is that alright with you?"
Jeff agreed, "Yes, that's fine."
"Alright, see you then," Chris concluded before hanging up the call.
