Iris Thompson still needed to recuperate, resting in her own room upstairs.
In the morning, Eve Thompson went downstairs to have breakfast with Emma Tonkin.
Emma was preoccupied with heavy thoughts.
Eve took a bite of toast and asked, "Mom, what's wrong with you?"
Emma glanced upstairs then began, "What do you think the Bates family is thinking?"
Eve was startled, "What do you mean?"
Emma sighed, "Your sister was pregnant, and not a single person from their side came to visit, not even a whisper when she miscarried. It's been a few days since we've been back and still no one... Do they not plan to accept this daughter-in-law, or what?"
Eve heard this, swallowed the toast, followed by a gulp of milk to steady herself before responding, "Maybe they've been tied down by some matter."
Emma shook her head, looked upstairs once more, and then spoke, "Let it be, let's eat. I'm probably overthinking it."
Eve nodded.
