Before Eve could finish speaking, Faith Williams's voice came from outside, "Miss Thompson?"
Eve Thompson: ??
Eve Thompson quickly interrupted Iris Thompson's words, "Iris, I know. Let's go out first. Mr. Charlie will take me home, and you take a taxi back. We can talk about it when we get home."
As soon as she heard the mention of going home, Iris Thompson became emotional and blurted out, "I'm not going back!"
Her reaction made it seem like home was a terrifying place. Eve looked at her, puzzled, and asked, "What happened?"
Just thinking about home, Iris became panic-stricken and shook her head, saying, "I'm not going back. I will find a place to stay, and you can come to me once you've dealt with Mr. Charlie."
Eve inferred that Iris must have been bullied at home, and therefore didn't want to go back. So, she nodded in agreement.
Eve took out her cell phone, handed it to Iris, and said, "Take this phone for now. It'll be easier for us to communicate."
Iris nodded.
