Eve Thompson delivered this line and cast a provocative glance at Claire Bowen.
Claire was so mad that she turned and walked away. Staying any longer, and she felt like she would vomit up blood from anger!
However, Eve patted Anthony Charlie on the shoulder, adjusted his suit and necktie. Then in a voice loud enough for Claire to hear, she asked, "Darling, when I came upstairs earlier, everyone was complimenting Miss Bowen for being pretty. Tell me, who's prettier—Miss Bowen or me?"
Claire's footsteps slowed down.
Mr. Charlie, whose necktie was tied so tightly he could barely breathe, said without any hesitation, "You're prettier."

Claire sped up her pace a bit.
Regrettably, she heard Eve say, "I knew you were attracted to me because of my good looks... it's such a pity. If you hadn't met me, perhaps, there could still be a chance between you and Miss Bowen."
