Upon seeing the flashing number on her phone, Eve Thompson sat up straight.
The nanny had been fired, and Eve had checked the surroundings for any hidden cameras. So, she answered the call on speakerphone so both she and Emma Tonkin could listen.
As she connected the call, Iris Thompson's voice came through: "Mom, Eve..."
Her voice was still soft, but seemed more upbeat than before, as if she was doing well outside.
Emma's eyes reddened, and she said, "Iris, please come home..."
Iris sighed, "Mom, I'm really happy away from home."
Before Emma could say anything else, Eve went straight to the point: "Sis, how did your surgery go?"
Iris paused before replying, "It's done, but we'll only know the results after I recover in half a month."
Eve sighed, thinking that her sister had indeed gone through with the surgery.
But...
"You have to take good care of yourself."
"Okay, I'm going to hang up now."
