"Today?" Jane Sampson looked bewildered, she had just woken up not long ago, and the only thing she had done since waking up was to call James Black to find out if he had been reborn like her, except he hadn't answered either of the two calls she made. After that, she just sat by the bay window, spacing out.
"Sis, today is Mom's birthday, did you really forget? You're not going to tell me you haven't prepared a gift, are you? Why didn't you say something earlier? If you had, I could have picked something up for you from the mall when I was coming over," Bright Sampson looked somewhat frantic as he watched Jane Sampson still standing dazed in the doorway and quickly stepped forward to pull her inside.
"You really didn't prepare anything? Then hurry up and change your clothes at home, take mine for now, and I will circle back to the mall and buy another one." Bright Sampson said, "It's okay if I'm late, but you can't be. Otherwise, people are going to talk again."
Only then did Jane Sampson begin to respond, she knew the date today, but having just been reborn, she was still in a daze and had indeed forgotten about today's events.
Today was Mother Sampton's birthday.
"Bright," Jane Sampson hurriedly called out to the person hastily putting on shoes at the doorway, preparing to leave, "I'm ready, you don't need to go out, just wait here for me for a bit. I'll go in and change into another dress and put on some light makeup."
Only upon hearing that did Bright Sampson breathe a sigh of relief and returned to the living room, giving Jane Sampson an urging look to hurry up, and casually asked her, "Where's your brother-in-law? He's not coming home with you, is he?"
"No." According to the trajectory of her previous life, James Black was indeed at the team base and had not come home. She had not discussed with James Black about her mother's birthday, and he himself did not remember these dates.
Jane Sampson glanced at the time and hurried back to her bedroom, opening the wardrobe and instinctively reached out to take out a conservative white dress to put on. But just as her fingertips touched the hanger, she hesitated and instead took down a bright red dress from next to it.
Compared to the white one, the bright red dress was as bold and passionate as its color, with only a layer of thin gauze covering the entire back and a slit in the skirt starting from the thigh, the dress exuded a subtly sexy charm.
This dress was a gift from Jane Sampson's friend, Nina Rice, intended to make Jane Sampson shine brightly instead of forever wearing the conservative dresses in her wardrobe that made her look like an elder aunt and drowning her beauty in the crowd.
Having changed, Jane Sampson took out a pair of simple black high heels from the shoe cabinet and put them on. The 10-centimeter high heels made the almost 1.7-meter-tall Jane Sampson suddenly look imposing.
"Beautiful." Jane Sampson twirled in front of the mirror and complimented herself before she was about to apply her makeup when the door to the house rang.
Jane Sampson called out to Bright Sampson in the living room to open the door, but when he didn't respond after a while, she left the bedroom and realized Bright Sampton was in the restroom.
Glancing at the time, Jane Sampson muttered that it was probably the delivery guy.
She was too tired to cook by herself at home, so she had made arrangements for two meals a day at a restaurant outside the residential community. Every day, at mealtime, the restaurant's delivery guy would bring her the food on time, rain or shine, unless James Black was coming back, in which case she would have cancelled with the boss ahead of time.
Opening the door, Jane Sampson leaned out halfway and extended her hand towards the person at the doorway, and it was only then that she realized that the person at the door seemed quite a bit taller than usual.
