Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Am I Going to Die?

James Black frowned and once again felt Jane Sampson's abnormality, despite their many years of marriage, Jane had never spoken to him like this before.

"You can talk now." James Black held back his puzzlement and began to speak.

"Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?" Jane Sampson's voice was very soft, as if she was seriously asking and seriously considering. If James Black wanted to hear a lie, she would seriously concoct one for him.

James Black just felt a headache coming on and took a couple of breaths before replying, "The truth."

"You asked for the truth, so don't get angry after hearing it, though getting angry would be pointless, anyway~" Jane Sampson warned James Black in advance and, seeing that he didn't intend to ask for a different answer, cleared her throat and slowly said, "There are too many reasons I want to divorce you, but I'll just list a few of the main ones for you."

"Go ahead." James Black's heart darkened. A list? So Jane Sampson had quite a few complaints about him?

"First, you're a rigid and dull person with a poker face, always holding a frown as if the whole world owes you money and hasn't paid you back," Jane Sampson didn't plan to stop once she had started, pouring out years of grievances one after another, "Second, a rigid and dull silence would be enough, but you just have to be nosy, living like an old antique, critical of anything even remotely trendy. Why don't you just go back to ancient times and live there?"

Luckily, the lighting here was dim enough that Jane Sampson hadn't noticed the color of the face above her had turned as dark as the bottom of a pot.

But Jane Sampson wasn't finished yet; after reorganizing her words, she continued, "Third, you're not skilled."

"Skilled?" James Black nearly gritted his teeth, "What skills?"

"Bed skills!" Jane Sampson was at the point of breaking completely, spitting out everything, "Either you don't come home for three to five months, and when you do, you torment me to death. With such terrible skills, only caring about your own pleasure, you might have your fun, but I'm in so much pain I just want to die! In the bed, you're like a wild ox, only knowing how to charge headfirst..."

The sudden shaking interrupted Jane Sampson's words. A thunderous roar echoed in their ears, along with James Black's muffled groan. Jane Sampson turned pale with fear and spoke again, her previously confident tone gone, replaced by a cry of terror, "James Black, are we going to die?"

Aftermath tremors shook the ruins, pinning Jane Sampson's previously mobile hand once more under a stone. This time, Jane wasn't so lucky; the excruciating pain in her wrist nearly made her faint.

"James Black, my hand hurts so much, James Black..." Even if she had been relentlessly criticizing him a second ago, at this moment, James Black truly was Jane Sampson's mainstay.

Hearing the terror in Jane Sampson's voice as she called his name, hearing her cries of pain, James Black soothed the anxious person beneath him with a low voice, enduring his own pain, "Bear with it for a while, the resc..."

Before he could finish, a mouthful of blood sprayed out ahead of his words.

Thick, blood-scented, and warm blood suddenly covered her eyes. Jane Sampson shouted in an alarmed voice, "James Black! James Black, are you okay?"

"I'm okay." James Black's vision was already shaky, faint signs of fainting apparent, but he still persevered.

He couldn't faint; if he did, Jane Sampson would only be more frightened alone.

Even though James Black said it was okay, the panic in Jane Sampson's heart had not diminished in the slightest.
