"She's gone?" Jane Sampson asked, dumbfounded as she looked around the empty study. "When did she leave without even saying goodbye?"
Jane Sampson stayed in the study for two minutes. Since James Black wasn't there and she was bored being alone, she followed suit and left the study too.
After leaving the study, she first went to the bedroom to look for him, and only after not finding James Black, she went downstairs. In the end, it was by the swimming pool in the courtyard where she found him.
Jane Sampson peeked out from under a tree several times. James Black clearly saw her, but he didn't even give her an extra glance.
Jane Sampson hesitated for a while before taking small, shuffling steps to James Black's back. She reached out and poked his shoulder and asked in a quiet voice, "What are you doing standing here? Don't you find it hot?"
James Black did answer Jane Sampson.
He said, "Just trying to cool down."
