"Can't you ask her yourself?" Rufus Swallow sneered gently, "Oh, right…I guess she'd rather confide in me than you. Disappointed, huh? In Norris's heart, you only have a small space left."
"Rufus," His voice came through low and deeply, "she's my woman, make sure you get that. I don't pursue what happened in the past because my father was there to quell things, but if you dare to lay a hand on her, I will not spare you!"
Rufus laughed softly in response, "Third brother, the one who needs to get things straight is you. Whether she wants to stay by your side or go with me, you know better than I do. She offered you a chance, but my dear third brother, you ruined everything." He laughed gently, his voice slow and methodical, "I told you five years ago, you and Norris, you were hopeless then and now, five years later, I can assertively tell you — third brother, Norris does not love you anymore."
