Scarlet woke up to the sound of vehicles and noises coming from out of her room. She squinted her eyes a little and slowly raised her body up to sit. She suddenly felt a rush in her head and a banging pain followed. She sucked her teeth at the sharp pain, raising her hand up to her head and she could hear the heated argument coming from the sitting room. Her mother seems to be arguing with someone—no, they are more than one.
Placing her feet down, she stood from the bed and made her way to the door. She opened it and placed one foot outside before the next. She felt the coldness of the wooden floor under her feet and it gave her chills. The floorboard creaked beneath her feet as she took two steps towards the stairs. The noises were very loud now and when she took another step, she saw the commotion in the sitting room. The door was wide open with cars parked outside and her mother was flaring up at some officers while Mr. Baron tried to calm her down.
