Chapter 11: Calligraphy Master
At nine o'clock in the night, Chloe Collins finished her private affairs and returned to the Fosters' residence.
The Feng Mansion was extremely large, not just an ordinary luxurious place - it was like a scaled-down version of a Western palace, majestic and magnificent. The main building where the Master lived served as the boundary dividing the East and West Wings. The East Wing housed the Master's younger son's family, while the West Wing was where the elder son's family lived.
Usually, the two sides lived their separate lives, only gathering in the Master's main building on specific occasions for a meal together.
Master had arranged for Chloe Collins to stay in the West Wing, for there were girls of her age living there. One of them was the family's only granddaughter, Cherry Foster.
After walking for a while, Chloe finally arrived at the small hall where the Master practiced calligraphy.
The entire hall was filled with calligraphy masterpieces, and the floor and tables were covered with paintings and writings - the air was filled with the fragrance of ink.
There were only two people in the hall, the Master and Cherry Foster, who was helping him grind ink. They were both focused on a piece of calligraphy and didn't notice her.
Chloe's gaze lingered on the calligraphy for a moment, her eyes filled with thought.
Then, she diverted her gaze away and knocked on the door, "Grandpa."
As the Master looked up, he revealed a kind smile, "Chlo-Chlo's back, come in and let me know, how do you think of this calligraphy I copied?"
Chloe glanced at the original calligraphy and asked, "Grandpa, you like this writing?"
The Master nodded and laughed, "Yes, although it's a work by a newcomer, the way he handles strokes and the structure of the characters surpasses many well-known calligraphers, this style can even be considered as unique."
Before he finished speaking, Cherry interrupted in a sweet voice, "Grandpa, this calligraphy was written by Primordial, the most famous calligrapher in recent years. He's not an unknown person, and this work has won many awards too. I took great effort to get it for you from someone."
The Master just nodded and smiled, without saying anything further. His gaze turned back to Chloe and asked her, "Chlo-Chlo, what do you think?"
Chloe gave a light smile, "The original isn't that impressive, but Grandpa's own writing is very good."
Master burst into laughter, "You, child, always know how to make me happy."
Cherry, however, pouted and muttered, "What a flatterer, she couldn't possibly know anything about calligraphy."
"Cherry, don't be rude." Master slightly raised his voice.
Cherry only pouted and said nothing.
Master put down his brush and paper, signaled the servant to take it away and store it properly. Then he turned to Cherry and said seriously, "Cherry, now that Chlo-Chlo is back, what should you say?"
Cherry's expression changed instantly, reluctantly hanging her head without a word, her hands tangled and twisted.
Seeing this, Master frowned, "Have you forgotten the rules of the Foster family?"
Only then did Cherry slowly raise her head. Her eyes glanced at Chloe Collins for a moment before reluctantly speaking, "I misunderstood you last night, I'm... I'm sorry."
Chloe remembered the events of last night.
When she returned late last night, she was immediately driven out of the main gate by Young Lady Foster, who also threw all her luggage out. The reason was that they had found the Young Lady's lost necklace in her room.
Later, she simply produced a surveillance video, which clearly recorded the whole process - the family dog took away the necklace, which ended up at Chloe's doorstep. A servant thought it belonged to Chloe and put it back on her dressing table.
After the misunderstanding was cleared up, the focus of the West Wing family shifted to the surveillance video, doubting Chloe's intentions.
Chloe didn't bother explaining anything, so she was thrown out.
Fortunately, she had some private matters to deal with, so she left Feng Mansion.
While in the car, she spoke to the Master on the phone, telling him that she left not because she was angry. The Master believed her.
Unexpectedly, Alexander Foster was sent to find her today.
Delving deeper into this matter wouldn't benefit her. With that thought, she nodded lightly, accepting Cherry's apology.
Cherry glared at her, then perfunctorily said goodbye to the Master and left.
After she left, the Master asked Chloe, "Child, after last night, your Aunt Evelyn came to see me. She wanted you to move to the East Wing and live with them. Would you like that?"
Chloe's face remained expressionless, and she nodded immediately, "As Grandpa wishes."
