Chapter 25 - Crash

Sometime later, Dan woke up but it wasn't because he wanted.

A loud explosion quaked his ears and a sense of falling enveloped his body.

Dan could feel himself floating off the floor and then he realized that they were crashing down.

Dan curled his body and braced for the impending impact which arrived after a couple of more seconds.

"Bangg"

A loud explosion reverberated in the surroundings as Dan landed on the floor with such impact that it knocked all of the air out of his lungs. His head spun as he rolled a couple of times and collided with a wall.

"Aghhhhh. "Dan screamed in pain as he lifted his body off the ground but then fell back down, the pain too much for him to handle.

"What? "He exclaimed as he lay there breathing heavily. Something was broken and Dan could feel it.

"Lang. Check the damage. "Dan ordered as he kept his eyes closed in pain but also because of the sudden brightness that his eyes had been subjected to after that explosion.

"You have two broken bones and slight muscle tears in your back because of that landing. Plus you also have a slight concussion. " Lang said and Dan was grateful that Lang had kept the language a bit simple, making it easier to understand.

"Begin healing. " Dan said as he tried to open his eyes. He had to survey his surroundings and find out what just happened. His head was still spinning and he was grateful that he had survived with such minor injuries. Falling from heights was a sure way to reach heaven but he had somehow survived that.

Dan opened his eyes and blinked a lot of times to let it adjust to the bright light and slowly stood up. Fortunately, he hadn't broken his legs which would have been a death sentence if there were any enemies here.

As soon as his eyes adjusted to the light, the first thing that Dan saw was a wreckage through a broken wall in front of him and the wreckage was on fire.

"What the fuck! "Dan exclaimed his face morphing into one of horror. A large ship which began from where he was standing revealed itself. The ship was made of wood, the reason why it was burning so brightly. The wave of heat from the flames slammed into Dan's face causing him to sweat.

As he checked his surroundings, he realized that he was at the top floor of the head of the ship, probably the reason why the room he was in hadn't suffered from much impact.

"Screech" A loud screech of a beast woke Dan from his reverie, reminding him that he was in the wild.

Dan ducked down and curled himself behind the wall separating him and the fire. The screech got louder and mixed with it was wails of humans and cries of help. But Dan stayed put, knowing he was just an ant, nothing more than a speck of dust in front of the monsters of this world.

He valued his life, how miserable it may be.

Dan curled up even more as the cries got louder. He knew people were dying but he lacked any courage to even go a bit further and peek at what was happening.

"Bang" Something crashed near Dan causing him to flinch. Something was coming and Dan hoped it was not a monster. He stayed put, hidden behind the half-broken wall while a wooden crate covered him from the front. He was hidden quite well, so even if a monster did come along, there was a great chance that he wouldn't be discovered.

Another bang and Dan shivered. The monster was big. He could feel it by the weight of it's steps.

The footsteps arrived near as time passed causing Dans' heart to beat faster and faster. It was like his end was coming and he was waiting for it, unable to run or hide from it.

"Growl. " A growl came from somewhere, sounding like a wounded beast.

Dan lifted his head and peeked ahead from the top of the crate to see a figure ambling towards him from the wall. The figure seemed to have broken through the wall and arrived in the room from an adjacent room.

Dan squinted his eyes and took a good look. It looked human and nothing like a monster that he had imagined it to be. But still, Dan hid, not willing to take the risk.
