Chereads / My Demon Book And System / Chapter 13 - The Library

Chapter 13 - The Library

The book was in a glass box among few other books in the library, it wasn't a system book but it seemed like a guidebook to Max's system book. With this guidebook Max believe he could learn all he needs to know about his system. He wanted to take a look but then Sergeant Creed approached him and placed his hand on his shoulder.

"Which one caught your eyes son?" He asked Max.

Max didn't want to reveal the particular book to Sergeant Creed because he didn't know what he might think, so instead Max pointed a book that was set three books apart from the one he was looking at.

"That one." Max pointed without even looking at the direction he was pointing to.

"The Ranks of Vision Ability." Sergeant Creed read out.

"Uh....!" Max startled. He was caught off guard by Sergeant Creed's voiced. His mind was buried on the book that had the same cover and name with his own system book.

"Isn't that the book you were looking at? The Ranks of Vision Ability?" Immediately the word Vision Ability struck Max, his mind raced back to last night when be received his ability.

< Ability: Inspection > [No Upgrade on Vision Ability]

Max then realized that the book he pointed by accident was just as important as the one that he was looking at.

He knew he couldn't ask about the first book, but he could definitely ask about the second one. "Can I look at it?"

Sergeant Creed made a puzzled expression before responding. "Well... you're free to look at it when you unlock the box."

"Unlock? Why is it locked?"

"Every book you see inside any locked boxes in this library is either rare or one of a kind. But I believe with 5 Bp (Beast points), you can unlock it and have access to all the books in this box. But if you're just interested in that particular one, you can access it with just 1 Bp."

Max grinned and looked at his wrist, and luckily for him, he didn't squander his points like James.

With determination and confidence, Max spoke up. "I have 7 points, so that means I can unlock the box, right?"

Sergeant Creed chuckled when he heard Max referring to game points. "Son, I said Bp, as in Beast points, not Game Points." He responded.

"What's the difference between the two?"

"100 Game Points are equivalent to 1 Beast point. So if you're planning on unlocking the box, you should be gathering 500 Game Points. And as a plain user, that should take you three weeks without unlocking or ordering anything else."

"And what if I'm not a plain user?" Max asked with a straight face.

"Hmm... You can participate in games and earn more Game Points. And before you ask, every game has its reward, and I'm sure if you join the winning groups, you can get Game Points faster." Sergeant Creed explained and walked away to talk to other students.

After viewing the library, they visited three other departments, which included the canteen, the weapon hall, and lastly, the Game world where games will be played as part of their training.

Five hours later, the whole tour ended, and General Skylar Vox called all of them to gather once again.

"Listen everyone, we have new recruits joining us today. And they were not kidnapped, if that's what you're all thinking. Training will begin from next week, so you all can do whatever you like: go outside, have fun, visit any department of your choice. And for those of you who are injured, you can visit the school clinic to recover your lost Health points."

Max wasn't concerned about his Health points; his main focus was the library and the books in that box. If training is starting from next week, that means there won't be Games until two or more weeks' time.

After General Skylar Vox was done talking, the new recruits walked inside. Among them, Max saw his high school enemy, Jacob.

"What is he doing here?" Max muttered in anger.

Everyone else left the center hall, but the new recruits remained for check-up and system books. Max immediately returned to the Library, and to his surprise, there was no one else except him.

He believed that most students had gone to the game world, indoor training hall, gym, or canteen. Well, since he was the only one there, he decided to take a good look around as he didn't get the chance to earlier.

He approached a particular shelf that had several books about demons, and luckily for Max, most of the books were not locked. He didn't know much about demons, so he picked one of the books and headed to a table to start reading.

Just as Max opened the book, his inspection ability activated again.

< Book name: Demon Slaves >

< Setting: Parallel world >

< Plot: Rebellion of slaves against their Masters >

< Reality: 5% >

Max was beginning to fall in love with his inspection ability. He thought the ability only worked on people, but now he knew that the ability works on objects as well. The inspection ability allowed Max to learn major details about the book. He now knew what the book was about and its realism, which was low.

Max walked back to the shelf and picked a few more. This time he didn't have to bring them to the table to read; he just needed to inspect them to determine how much he could benefit from them. After inspecting many books about demons, Max didn't find any one with more than 10% reality on them.

But just as Max was about to lose hope, his gaze fell on a book at the last minute. He pulled out the book and read the words on it slowly.

"BOUNTY DEMONS."

Max quickly remembered Ryan introducing himself as a bounty demon the other night in his room. However, Ryan didn't provide many details about it; the only thing he mentioned was that he doesn't possess humans. It also occurred to Max that Ryan wasn't around him as he had claimed. Anyway, to Max, that was a good thing.

He decided to inspect it as well to determine how much of the book is real, and the result Max got was far more than he had expected.

< Name: Bounty Demons >

< Setting: Underworld >

< Plot: The Three Sons of Darkness >

< Reality: 90% >

"If the book is about three sons of darkness, that means that the bounty demons are the sons of darkness. And if Ryan introduced himself as a bounty demon, that makes him one of the sons as well." Max thought.

He was so excited that he could finally get to know a lot about Ryan. He walked towards the table and began reading pages after pages.

After hours of reading, Max happened to come across a particular section that mentioned Ryan, his demon. The words used to describe Ryan were disturbing to his mind.
