Chapter 9 - Adventurer's guild

After Mr Frederick left the house, breakfast was spent in silence, with Elena occasionally glancing at me. I wiped my lips with a napkin and stood up from my seat, "Thanks for the food... Call me when you're ready for the tour" I said, and headed for the stairs.

When I got upstairs, I didn't return to my room, but headed for the balcony at the living room. And when I pulled the double slide door leading to the balcony open, loud noises immediately reverberated in my ears. I stepped into the balcony and looked down at the street, which was crowded by all the 'legal' races.

They were bumping into each other occasionally, while walking hurriedly in every direction. There were stalls by the side, selling all kinds of herbs, fruits, and miscellaneous items. There were hawker's all around the place, trying to persuade customers to buy their goods and services.

There were smokes puffing up from numerous chimneys in what seemed like factories. Beast rides which were mounted by people, or pulling carriages, were occasionally driving by. And in the far distance, I could see the great wall of the noble heart, standing tall.

"It's a nice view, right?" I heard Elena voice from behind.

"It's wonderful..." I replied, and turned to glance at her.

She was wearing a tight black short gown with high collars, a blue jean jacket, and a knee high black boot. Her long blonde hair was tied in a ponytail, leaving a few bangs hanging freely, and there was a pretty matching white earring, necklace, and bangle, on her ears, neck, and wrists respectively.

"How do I look?" She asked with a cute smile.

"You look... Splendid" I said with two thumbs up, and walked up to her with my right palm stretched out.

She placed her left palm on mine, and I raised it up to my lips, and pecked a jade ring on her middle finger. Then we walked downstairs together, and exited the house, stepping into the crowded street, and heading in a random direction.

"You can ask questions" Elena said, as we avoided bumping into people.

"This might sound weird, but... How is the power of a relic siphoned?" I asked curiously.

I really wanted to know how I became a inheritor.

"It's like baptism they do in churches... Soak the relic in a pool of water big enough to swallow you, step into the pool of water, slice your palm or any other part of your body open with any weapon of your choice, and submerge yourself in the pool.

"When your blood comes in contact with the relic inside the water, the relic will begin glowing, and float up to your left chest while you're inside the water. Then it's essence will begin carving a unique tattoo on your left chest, which would knock you unconscious till the tattoo is done.

"The more powerful the relic is, the longer it would take for the tattoo to be done. Mine took seven days... And I heard the emperor's last daughter's tattoo took fourteen days" she said without pause, and whispered the last part.

Now things are making sense, so there was a relic inside the lake I fell into, that is why I woke up as a inheritor. 'What a lucky encounter' I muttered to myself, with a smile.

"Why did you ask about stronghold ninety one yesterday?" Elena asked curiously.

"That's where I last remembered myself at, so I wanted to know the duration of my memory loss... Which is seven days I think" I replied.

"Actually, it might not be seven days... My calculations was based on the duration with the fastest beast ride" Elena replied with an awkward smile.

"What?! So if I came here on foot..." I was saying.

"That's not possible, you would've probably been torn apart by a beast... But it would take no less than fifteen days on foot" she interrupted, and chuckled at my silly thoughts.

I didn't ask anymore questions, and just contemplated on what could've happened to me after I fell unconscious in the lake. Elena didn't interrupt when she saw I was trying to grasp my lost memories, till we got to the largest building I had seen so far.

"This is the infamous adventurers guild, the most important building in the stronghold, and there's only one of this building in each stronghold" Elena said with a smile.

"What makes it so important?" I asked in surprise.

"It's like a social building where people post missions for others to complete it... it has the only teleportation portal in the business district, which can take you anywhere in a second if you can afford the price... And it's a trade bank for those who are registered with them. This is the best place to make legal money quickly, it's even better if you're skilled" Elena explained.

"That's nice... So the nobles would have to come over to the business district to make use of their services?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah..." Elena replied with a smile.

"Let's go get me registered then" I said.

"Sure" Elena said, and took the lead.

There were two knights adorned in black steel armour, standing at the two sides of a large double door which led inside the building. And there were also other knights patrolling the area vigilantly.

The building was heavily guarded.

I walked behind Elena as she climbed up a flight of stairs, leading up to the large double door which supposedly led inside the building. When we reached the door, she suddenly grabbed my arms and turned me around, so that my back was now facing the closed large double door.

"Do you like pranks?" She asked with an innocent smile.

"I-i think so..." I replied in confusion, I was confused at why she turned me around, and at her sudden question.

What was she trying to play at?

She then smiled mischievously and inched closer to me, with her palms on my chest, "Then tell me how you like this one..." She said, and suddenly pushed me.
