"I'll triple your income it if you quit your jobs and come work for me."
In the month leading up to the paycheck, Most of what John had been doing was working for Jean. So he thought there wouldn't be any change. And he would get paid more.
So John didn't even have a moment of hesitation.
"Deal." Said John
Jean smiled.
"Cool. Anyone else."
"Could you give me an increased salary for being the team leader?" Asked Cassandra
Jean shook his head.
"I'm already giving you guys a minimum of 600k a year to work for me. Increasing your salary by any more would be stupid." Said, Jean
Cassandra nodded.
"Okay."
"Is currency even still valid with the war-torn state of the world right now?" Asked a disembodied voice.
"Yes. A lot of infrastructure has been destroyed, but most of the bigger cities or any other Areas with a robust military presence or a large number of warriors have made it though. The only big city that was destroyed was East Aroura. And that wasn't from the Trolls." Said Jean.
"Okay, sweet. But are banks even working? Or are you going just to give us massive piles of cash?" Asked Rob
"The national banks are working. But the other ones have all collapsed."
"Okay. I'm down." Said, Rob
John scowled. He hadn't even asked those questions before accepting. And he was the accountant! He should be the one thinking about those things!
Ugh.
Nathanial turned and looked at John for a moment.
"Can we quit at any time?" Asked Nathanial.
"You have to give three months notice." Said, Jean
Nathanial scowled.
John could almost hear his thoughts.
Well, that makes things harder for me.
It means he had to make things look like even more of an accident.
"I'm also willing."
"I'm one hundred percent down!" Screamed Charles enthusiastically
Jean smiled.
"So that only leaves Nathanial and Cassandra."
"I'm willing." Said Cassandra
"I will also be willing." Said Nathanial.
Jean nodded
"Okay, great. I'll call my pilot up for your first mission. You'll probably have about two hours before the plane arrives."
The group nodded. Cassandra, Rob, Charles and Nathanial shuffled out of the room. But John stayed there.
"I have a question." Said John
"Ask away." Said, Jean
"How do you plan to make money from this?" John asked
Jean smiled.
"First off, we're going to get the spoils of war. The things we'll be able to loot will be worth a lot of money. And second off. Once you build up your reputation, I plan to hire you as super expensive mercenaries. The squad will get thirty percent of the money I make. And another twenty percent will be distributed between people I pay to support you guys and keep you running as efficiently as possible. Then, the other fifty percent will be spent on some of my other endeavours."
John nodded.
Smart. With the current war-torn state of the world, it would be easy to make a lot of money from battle. He must have hand-picked the new warriors that he thought were the most promising.
John smiled.
"So the pay can increase then?"
"Yes. But we're only going to talk about the intricacies of your payment after you finish your first mission. I need to know you've got some salt."
"Okay. Thanks for the information."
With a grunt, John pushed himself to his feet.
I guess I'll find my Babies and play with them. John thought to himself.

…
...
...…
John spent the next three hours playing with His dragons. Stove and Refirgerator gave him a few burns. But Band-Aid healed him up pretty quickly. John would have to stop every five minutes to catch his breath. But it was still a fun time.
And then his fun ended.
"JOHN! IT'S TIME TO GO!" Cassandra screamed
John's head flipped in her direction.
"YOU DON'T HAVE TO YELL!" John yelled.
Cassandra looked at the ground. There was a slightly guilty glint in her eyes.
"Sorry. You just looked happy. I didn't want to go through the effort of thinking up an elegant way to disturb your peace." Cassandra said
John simply glared.
Then don't disturb it.
"Well, Let's get going." Said Cassandra.
John nodded.
"Yes, let's."
.
…
...
...…
John stood at the outside of a large private jet. His jaw was hanging from his mouth as he stood there.
He never thought he'd meet her again. He didn't think he'd want to meet her again. Who would want to meet smelly John? But regardless. There she was.
Aria.
"SO! YOU MANAGED TO PASS THE WARRIOR TEST!" Aria yelled over the hum of the plane.
John nodded.
"YES! IN FACT, I PASSED WITH FLYING COLOURS! I GOT A C!" Screamed John as he pumped his fists into the sky.
Aria smiled.
"WELL AT LEAST YOU PASSED!" Yelled Aria
John smiled and nodded.
"Yes. At least I passed." John said. The sound of the plane drowned out his voice.
John walked up the stairwell into the private jet. He didn't have to squeeze his fat through the doorway this time. It fit quite easily. It was almost like the doorway was specially widened to fit his mass.
John was quite flattered by that.
The fact that someone would take the time to accommodate him was incredible.
The inside of the jet was opulent. It had fancy leather seating that was placed around round tables. There were large benches with plush pillows on the sides of the plane and one or two stewardesses standing within it.
And most importantly. John could see and smell an incredible amount of food.
A smile appeared on his face.
Mhhh.
With footsteps so weighty that they shook the plane, John walked down the aisle. He sat down at the most spacious table and opened one of the bottles of wine that was placed there.
As the group watched, he chugged the thing in one go.
"Are you sure getting drunk before a mission is a good idea?" Asked Cassandra
John simply smiled.
"This won't get me drunk." Said John
