Chapter 62 - Chapter 62 – Xerxes’ reports

Third person POV

Later, at 3:18 p.m., Gretchel was coming home from school when she saw Xerxes walking towards the main administrative house. "Oh, Xerxes-san," she said to him. Xerxes then heard that and turned towards her. "Lady Gretchel, hi there. How's school?"

"It's…It's fine," replied Gretchel back normally and slowly.

 "Okay."

Xerxes then turned the knob and opened the door for her. "You go first, my lady."

Gretchel tried to decline it, but Xerxes insisted.

So, she went in first, then Xerxes last, before Xerxes would close the door. In the living room, they saw Lloyd's childhood friends sleeping on the couch and floor. "So those are master's friends from Langton…" Xerxes commented in a low voice. Gretchel then nodded. "Yes, they're good people that you can trust."

 "I see then."

Laura then came to the living room, only to see Xerxes and Gretchel standing behind the door.

She then walked up to them. "Oh, you're home."

"Yes, Laura-chan," responded Xerxes seriously, "I had finished my long and separate interrogations on our prisoners of war from Langton."

 "Really?" Gretchel chimed in.

Xerxes then looked at her. "Yes, we captured them after Langton's army retreated."

Gretchel then got it, but she is now wondering how having prisoners of war benefits her new country.

She then looked at her friends from Langton. "Since when they had started sleeping?"

"Well, since about 9:23 a.m. this morning," Laura replied back as she looked at the grandfather clock, which was ticking by. "It seems that they didn't slept last night."

"Yeah, Zeke-kun told me about that," Xerxes responded back, "after he spied on their camp in Langton east of the border."

 "Oh, that's why…"

"The time of the raid was a mistake, wasn't it?" Gretchel asked.

Laura and Xerxes then looked at her.

 "Not at all."

"That thing was an opportunity for master's friends to defect to our side."

Gretchel now got it and regretted her question.

"So, how's school, my lady?" Laura positively asked her, changing the topic.

"It's fine," answered Gretchel back with positivity. "Maria-sensei's topic for today is so good and fun."

"That's good to hear, my lady. It seems that you're enjoying your school life in that school."

Xerxes then nodded while he was positive on her master's younger, half-sister's happy day at school.

With that Gretchel went upstairs to put away her knapsack and change her clothes for the day.

After that, Laura asked Xerxes how his interrogation on the prisoners of war from Langton was. "It seems that they wanted to destroy Bewote," replied the Undead wolf tribal leader, "just as always for humans' view and prejudice on us."

Laura understood this. "Let's go to Lloyd-sama and tell that to him."

Xerxes then nodded in agreement, and he and Laura went upstairs to Lloyd's office. There Laura knocked on the door. "Come in," a voice, not Lloyd's, responded back. Not noticing it, Laura opened the door, and she and Xerxes went in, only to see that Zeke was working at this hour instead of Lloyd.

"Oh, good afternoon, Xerxes-kun," Zeke said to Zeke directly. "How's the interrogation."

"It was fine…" Xerxes responded back, "…where's master?"

Laura then closed the door behind her.

Zeke then interrupted his work and pointed his finger at Lloyd, who was sleeping on the wooden oak floor with a pillow under his head, for a few seconds.

Laura and Xerxes looked at him and now remembered that the raid by Langton had happened last night,

So, they quickly realized that their master didn't get any sleep.

 "Right…"

 "He didn't sleep last night."

 "Yes, exactly," Zeke replied back.

Xerxes then went closer to Lloyd's desk while Laura remained standing behind the door. He then pulled out some papers from his metal armor and placed them on the desk. "Here's my reports of my interrogation on our prisoners of war from Langton." Seeing the papers, Zeke gathered them into one pile and read the first page. Xerxes then stood there watching. Zeke reads his interrogation reports page by page.

According to the reports by Xerxes, the raid was intentional by Langton because they wanted to exterminate and get rid of one of the Wooda's Autonomous Tribes, which was the Undead bird tribe called Eain. Furthermore, the reports added that the raid was started and motivated by Albert and his royal court, who also wanted to steal the tribe's precious commodities like cloth, silk, pottery, and oak and dark oak trees. The reports ended with the last interrogation dialogue with the last prisoner of war, which was a general from Langton.

After reading all of these, Zeke got it fast and put the papers back on the desk, before looking at Xerxes. "Good job. Now we found out what was the motive of that raid." Laura and Xerxes were positive of Zeke's opinion and feedback Xerxes' 11 paged, interrogation reports.

"Don't worry," continued Zeke, "once master woke up from his nap, I'll tell the report to him."

Xerxes then bowed his head deeply for a few seconds. "Thank you so much."

"You did a great job, Xerxes-kun." Laura gave out a compliment to him.

Hearing that appreciative compliment, Xerxes' wolf ears appeared and perked up for a few seconds, and he was flustered a bit. "Thank you…"

His wolf ears then disappeared shortly after.

Then, Zeke gave an order to Xerxes to continue on monitoring the prisoners of war in the fortresses.

"Understood." Xerxes nodded in obedience. "I'll do just that."

He then turned back and went to the door, before opening it and leaving the office.

Laura then left the office and closed the door, going back to her duties in the house.
