Azure sat down cross legged on his mat. So many thoughts rushed into his head, but he shut them out. He had to make the most of the free time he had to meditate.
'For the light shineth upon the darkness and the darkness comprehends it not!'
What exactly did that verse mean? He thought about it for a while. Surely, light was stronger than darkness, how else would light shine on darkness and triumph over it.
After a while of thinking and having no results, he decided to take a non biblical view in the topic.
All other references that he knew about light and darkness saw them as equals, the taijitu symbol shows that light and darkness are to be known as equals.
So that means that for light to triumph over darkness, light has to be more than darkness. Light doesn't win over darkness just because it's there, it wins because it's in higher magnitude than darkness!
"Huuu…" Azure let out a puff or air. He didn't bother to take a break and moved over to the second bible verse on his mind.
"Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity!"
What exactly did vanity mean? Vanity meant something is meaningless, 'vanity of vanities', meaningless of meaningless?!
Azure's head was spinning. How the hell was he supposed to understand all these words.
Vanity, meaningless. All is vanity meant that all is meaningless. That means that that everything that had to do with the attack was meaningless. The sword stroke was meaningless, the result of the attack was meaningless, everything was meaningless.
The more he thought about it, the more his head spun. At the end, he decided to temporarily give up on it and move on to other bible verses.
Ten days later…
An azure haired boy came out of a mud house that had fancy architecture. He was wearing an azure top and an azure shirt. He had a sword strapped to the left side of his waist.
"Damnit!" Azure swore under his breath. "I was almost certain that I got it this time".
After he finished his little meditation session, he had been trying to get to the welfare room. So far, he had opened six doors and all of them led to blizzard rooms that he wasn't sure should even be included inside any form of a building.
Cursing again, he stepped into the building.
This time though, he saw the 'familiar' table in the middle of the room, the posters advertising various quests and missions and he heaved a sigh.
"Hey". He walked over to the table and greeted the middle aged woman who smiled back as a response.
"Is this about the member's exhibition?" She asked. Azure nodded. "You qualified. It starts in two weeks".
"You didn't even check anything". Azure said. "How did you know I qualified?"
"Everyone qualifies". The middle aged woman smiled. "The whole preliminary round is just a ruse so that they can see how strong the members are and arrange good match draws".
"Oh…" Azure didn't like the feeling of being played for a fool. He was thankful nevertheless, heavens knew if he would have qualified if the preliminary round was real.
At the middle aged woman's request, he stayed and chatted with her for a while. She advised him to go on missions for the two week break before the tournament.
Azure decided that it would be a good way to test his improvement and as such, two hours later, he stood in front of a bulletin board that had papers containing details of different missions pinned on it.
He looked around for a bit and all of a sudden, he realized why people remained workers for so long. These weren't mission they were errands.
"Get five fire crystals from the lava lake". Azure read out loud. "Reward; one-sixteenth star".
He shook his head. He turned his attention to another mission and found that most of them were similar to the one that he just read.
Get transmission crystals from the arctic realm.
Get holy water from King David's Spring.
He almost spat blood when he read some of the missions. Why the fuck were they considered angels when all they did was go on stupid errands with low rewards.
At that moment, he understood why the two stars reward seemed like a big deal to Tamra and the other members. It was basically saving them the stress of going on thirty two missions.
He was about giving up when the corner of his eyes caught a new mission. This one was actually very rewarding.
Hunt down and kill five camouflaged demons.
They dwell predominantly in the flat peak mountain range.
Reward: One star per ordinary demon core.
One star per elemental demon core.
He searched his memories for a bit and remembered what a camouflaged demon was. It was basically a demon that had taken up a human form.
Azure removed the paper from the bulletin board and immediately attempted to leave the headquarters. He was going to hunt himself some demons.
