Chapter 32 - Half Dead

Numbness. That was the only word that was somewhat accurate in describing what Azure felt, or didn't felt. He didn't feel anything. No pain, no fatigue and yet he couldn't open his eyes.

He didn't feel like he had just went through a life threatening battle. He didn't feel like he had just over exerted himself. He didn't even know why his eyelids would not open. He felt nothing, and as such he assumed that nothing would be wrong with his body.

Then he felt it, the stinging that came with the wounds on his body, the fatigue and aches that came with his over exerted body. The pain that came with the broken bones and fractures.

Azure groaned. He attempted to open his eyes, but it was as if something glued them shut. He felt again, he could feel again, but his eyes remained close.

Amidst the pain and the stinging and the fatigue, he felt something else. Something soft moving along the torn skin on his chest. This feeling was succeeded with a warm, wet feeling.

He knew what the latter was… tears. Somebody was crying, but why? Did he die?

He dismissed the thought as soon as it came. He couldn't be dead. If he was dead then he wouldn't be having these thoughts. Then again, recent experiences showed him that death wasn't exactly what he thought it was.

He heard sobs and felt the warm liquid trickling down his skin. He was sure someone was crying, the question at this point was who?

Tamra. She had to be, she was the only one that was there with him, but then why was she crying? He wasn't dead, or was he. He didn't know.

"Ah!" He attempted to call out her name but the only thing that came out of his mouth was a low moan. The moan seemed to have worked though because he didn't hear any sobs again.

Moments later, he felt something soft moving over the surface of all his wounds. Wherever the soft thing went, he would feel something wet on the surface.

For a while after the soft sensation, he felt nothing. Heard nothing. Even the stinging pain from his wound or his broken bones felt numb to him.

Then he felt it, his eyelids fluttering as if they wanted to open, if they did, then it felt as if something held them down, they couldn't open.

After a while, he began to feel the injuries closing, the broken bones began to heal. His body was soon absolved at all pain.

Once more his eyes attempted to open themselves. They failed. The only evidence of their struggles were weak fluttering.

Tamra looked at Azure's unconscious body which lay in her laps. Her eyes red dimmed from the crying which she had done previously. She used her hand to feel the surface of his bare upper body in an attempt to ascertain whether or not the injuries had healed properly.

She clenched her teeth as she waited for him to wake up, her thoughts clouded by the unthinkable. What if he died?

If he did, she wouldn't be able to forgive herself. Although they hadn't known each other for long enough to be considered good friends, he was her only friend. The only person that didn't run away from her 'strangeness'. He didn't treat her like a little child like most people that she had met. He talked to her like she was his equal. That was what she really liked about him.

Azure on the other hand was impervious to her thoughts. The only thing that he concerned himself with was how to open his eyes.

Once more he attempted the seemingly impossible task. Once more his eyes fluttered, this time though they opened, even if it was for a bit, he could feel the light from his surroundings. Then they closed, and he was left with the darkness again.

"Ah!" He let out another small moan in an attempt to pronounce Tamra's name. His heart beat began to accelerate. He was beginning to get scared.

He closed his eyes, well his eyes were already closed, he consciously tightened the muscles that kept his eyes closed. He wanted to concentrate, like the opening of his eyes was a delicate art that required perfection before it can be practiced.

With all the tenacity that he could muster, he tried to open his eyes, and after the fourth attempt, his eyes opened.

His eyes subconsciously squinted due to the influx of light from the surroundings. They had spent so much time in the dark that they needed time to adjust to the new light.

"Azure?!" Tamra exclaimed joyfully.

"Uh?" Azure couldn't process what was happening. All he knew was that after that sound, his face rested on something soft, and he liked it, and as such he smiled.

A/N:

As much as I would've loved to make this chapter longer, it ends here. What do you think though. Azure and Tamra?
