Chapter 5 - Bretrayals

  Azriel's Pov

I turned to Elvis, he had blood and injuries all over him, the two of us were seated down outside the torn apart meeting house. I too had my own share of the scars but we didn't have it as bad as the elders and commanders that lay dead and lifeless on the ground in their human form.

"Whatever problem we think we had before, has just gotten worse." Elvis said while staring at the dead.

"It's not that bad" I stood up, "We need to find new commanders as fast as possible."

Before sunrise the whole town already learned of what happened, how the alpha and his right hand man slaughtered the elders and commanders. Instead of this news to instill fear into the hearts of everyone in the pack, it instilled hatred. A knock on the door drew me back to reality, I've spent the whole day looking at maps, and looking for our best possible strategies for victory.

There are five kingdoms in the world,

First, where I am from, the 'Kingdom of Epsilon', with a population of three hundred thousand Werewolves, and governed by a group of three alphas, Me leader of the Moongrass pack, Othello leader of Whitedeck Pack and Axewell leader of Descrow Pack.

Second, The Kingdom of Targrot, led by the Lycan king, Babylon, it has the population of seven hundred thousand Werewolves. It is north east of Epsilon.

Third, The Kindom of Venron, population of about one hundred thousand vampires, led by no one, it is known as the land of the strongest. It is south of Epsilon.

Fourth, Shiratori, with a Population of about three million humans, led by King Jose Gaustin, known for it's great advance in technology. It is west of Epsilon.

Fifth, The Kingdom of Abbalon, with a population of about one million Vampires, led by the Emperor Agustin Dracula, it's known as the kingdom of darkness. This is North west of Epsilon.

These five kingdoms have avoided direct conflict with each other for nearly three hundred years, due to the fact that a war might plunge the world into absolute chaos. Now back to what got us here, a small independent town was suffering due to the enormous presence of Vampires in it. To help then, I gathered my pack and fought them off. But somehow an army of fifty thousand vampires gathered with the aim of attacking the town, throughout my life time, the most vampire army I've seen is twelve thousand. Now we have to fight them with just the two thousand werewolves we have here, do we wait for reinforcements from Epsilon, no, there won't be enough time

*Kpo kpo kpo* another knock on the door.

"Come in."

Elvis walked in, he looked deeply troubled, "There is bad news"

"What is it?"

"Our pack members are deserting the town"

My heart skipped a beat, we were already running short of fighters, "How many people deserted?"

"Five hundred werewolves and some townsfolk left,"

"Did they learn about the number of vampires we are fighting?"

"They did."

"How did they find out about that?" I clenched my fist, if that information is out, then we are lucky that the town is still peaceful.

"I have no idea, but I don't think everyone in the village knows yet, we caught three people trying to escape. We might get that information from them."

"Take me to them"

Elvis led the way, he took me straight to the prison where the deserters was locked up. The inside was dark so the guard lit a wooden torch and brought it to us, I could finally see the deserters.

"Danny, Goxen, Vanillion, what is the meaning of this?" My voice was deep and commanding, I tried to sound like the alpha but the crack in between slightly revealed the hurt I felt seeing Danny inside that prison. We played together as kids, one of the few people I trust on this earth.

"We are so sorry have mercy on us!" Vanillion cried.

"Have mercy on you?!" I grabbed the steel bars angrily, "You know how much I need men right now, yet you decide to betray me?!"

"You are leading us to our deaths, we only tried to save our lives" Goxen said nearly in tears.

"What excuse do you have?" I said to Danny who was seated and pretending not to pay attention to us.

"I have no excuse, what I do have is the truth."

"What truth?"

"You sent your wife away to protect her, then you decide to kill all of us. How selfish can you be? I have a family back home! I have no intention dying here for the people of this town. We've already given them their freedom; they should fight and protect it." Danny said

"The people of this town should fight against an army of fifty thousand vampires?"

"Yes. Not everyone has the power to sneak out their loved ones."

"You swore to never say that to anyone, yet you betray me once again Danny."

"What are you going to do? Kill me like you killed your commanders?"

The rage inside me flared transforming me into my beast form, and tore through the prison bars.

"What are you doing?! We are friends Azriel!" Danny yelled as my claws bore into his skin tearing him apart, I turned to the other two and tore them apart in a heartbeat. My skin was covered in blood as I transformed back to human. The guard holding the torch stared at me in fear, he heard everything Danny said, if the pack learns of how I sent my wife away to safety, then they all will surely leave this place, and if I try to stop them, I will be killed. Danny my good friend betrayed me, how much more him? I shot out claws from my nails and slashed the guard's throat, he fell to his knees then the ground with blood pumping out of the wound. He tried to say something, but he couldn't create any sound, slowly, he stopped moving.

Elvis turned to me and said, "At this rate, the pack will be wiped out even before the vampires attack."

"I am doing what has to be done to protect the people of this town, by the way, have you found what it is the vampires want from this town?"

"Not yet, but I believe we are close."

"I don't want you to be close, I want you to find it. That thing might be the only thing that will save us."

"Okay."

The days flew by, I still couldn't didn't find any plan and we have lost half of our forces, most deserted while the rest was executed for trying to desert. I stared at the table in my room, filled with maps, books etc. I started to punch the wall so hard my fingers started to bleed, I was screaming as I punched the wall. A knock on the door stopped me momentarily, "Who's there?" I wiped the blood of my fist.

"It's Elvis"

"Come in."

Elvis walked in, "Have you found it?" I said to him as he drew closer. "No." His reply flared my anger, "Then what brings you here?" as I watch him walk towards me, the urge to slash his throat with my claws grew, I didn't know him to be this incompetent, has he betrayed me too?

"I came to tell you that our scouts said we will be attacked this night by the vampires, they are almost at our doorstep."

His words sunk deep into my soul, I became weak to the knees, "How many people are left in our pack?"

"Barely five hundred"

A smile appeared on my face as I looked up to the ceiling, "Fifty thousand versus five hundred people, has a nice ring to it don't you think?"

"I am going to stand by you, in good and in bad."

"Thank you Elvis, now go and prepare what's left of our pack for battle, I will join you all shortly."

Elvis left the room without a shred of fear in him, I walked back to my maps and buried my head into them, still trying to find a possible escape to all this. The next time I looked out of the window the moon was out, hanging in the sky and watching. I looked down to the town and the people I've vowed to protect, memories of everything I built here started to come back to me. The total number of what was left of my pack was two hundred and twenty one as we marched to engage the vampires. We stood at the outskirts of the town, and watched the moon rise and the vampires troop out from the forest like sand, their length stretched to the horizon.

"We are screwed," A voice beside me said in a low tune.

"Get ready for battle," I commanded as I transformed into my wolf form, everyone in the pack followed suit.

"Here they come," the vampires started to dash towards us, travelling as fast of the wind.
