Chapter 7 - Frenemies

Elvis' Pov

Flashback

I have always had memories of being with Azriel, our parents were close friends so we grew up together like brothers. We played together, fought together, cried together and laughed together. His parents were regular members of the pack, while my father Radnar was the alpha, he was loved by everyone in the pack.

"Hey where are you boys coming from?!" Darius, my elder brother yelled at me and Darius as we strolled up to my house, a bungalow at night covered with mud. We were ten at the time.

"We went to buy bread," Darius smilled.

"Bread? Looking like you just lost a tug of war tournament, besides where is the bread?"

"A thief stole it…" I replied, and Darius glared at us with his fist clenched.

"Let the kids be," Radnar, my dad walked out of the tent, "It's too late to go home, why don't you stay over for the night and join us for dinner too."

"Okay." Me and Javier walked into the house.

"So how are your parents doing?" My mom asked with a smile, "They are all doing fine." Azriel replied while stuffing his face with the food on the dinner table. "Greet them for me when you get home, say hi to them for me."

"Okay ma'am"

"What is your dream?" Azriel asked me as we lay in my room watching the moonlight.

"I want to become the alpha and take over the pack from my father, how about you, what do you want to do?"

"I don't know yet"

"Dude, are you still looking for ideas?"

"Kinda, seems like everyone has something they want to do except me."

"I think we will both be great werewolves."

"You want to take over from your father? What about your elder brother?"

"Darius has no interest in being the alpha, he just wants to open a restaurant and live a cool life."

"That sounds good…" Darius stretched out his hand and looked at his palm, "I wonder if I could cook like that."

Few months after that interaction, I saw Rachel, she looked like a princess, her eyes were dreamy, and her face had no blemishes, she was seated under a tree alone, her family recently joined the pack so she had no friend at the moment.

"Hey," I said as I walked up to her.

"Hi"

"My name is…"

"I know who you are, the alpha is your father." She replied with a smile, "I also know that you have a brother Darius, and that your mum's name is Helen."

I just stared at her in awe forgetting every single word I wanted to say to her. "Don't look at me like that, I am not a stalker I promise, your family is hella famous."

"Well, you don't look like one." Her beauty completely charmed me.

From that day I watched her from afar, her cheerful spirit, the way she interacted with others, her smile, and the way she slept. I adored everything about her.

"Elvis, what is it like being the alpha's son?" Rachel asked me, as we walked side by side at night. At this point we were sixteen and have become a functioning member of the pack, being that we already had our first transformations into werewolves and I also have became quite close to her.

"It's no different from regular families, we are all the same."

"How do you know what regular families are like, when you've never been in one?"

"I visit my friend Azriel all the time, and his family is no different than mine."

"You know Azriel?"

"Yeah, we are literally brothers, you know him?"

"Not really, I've seen him a few times but we haven't talked… yet."

"I will introduce you to him tomorrow." I turned to her and smirked.

"What's happening tomorrow?"

"It's my birthday and you are coming, I invited Azriel too."

"Your birthday?!" Rachel gasped and looked at me with this big smile on her face. "Of course I will come!"

My house was filled to the brim with people at the night of my birthday, not only the people from our pack came, people from different werewolf packs all around the kingdom attended. The only people missing were Azriel and his family, even though I gave them special invite, they still didn't show.

"Happy birthday," Rachel said while planting a kiss on my cheek. I turned red instantly, "Thank you," She took out a box and handed it to me, I opened it and it was a necklace with a pendant.

"Thank you," I smilled

"Turn around I will put it around your neck right now." Rachel said while tapping my shoulder, I felt her hand graze my neck softly, I got Goosebumps and my heart fluttered as she fixed the hook of the necklace. After she was done, she wrapped her arms around my neck hugging me from behind, even though this happened for a few minutes, it is ingrained  in my heart for eternity.

Few days later I found Azriel standing at the edge of a cliff, for some reason I believed he was trying to jump

"Hey," The violent breeze muffled my voice.

"Elvis, what brings you here?"

I walked closer to where he stood and looked down, the ground was barely visible. "I was looking for you, what are you doing?"

"Can you fathom how vast this world is, and we are holed up in one place." The wind bloated his polo as he outstretched his arm trying to grab on to the wind.

"Umm, yeah, it's big… dude you ditched my birthday party." I said with a frown.

"Oh sorry about that, something came up at home"

"I need an advice bro," I sat down right at the edge.

"What's that?"

"There is this girl I love, and I want her to become mine, but I don't know how to tell her."

Azriel turned to me with a smirk, "That's easy, just tell her, who will dare to say no to the son of the alpha?"

"No Azriel, you don't get it" I lay down with on my back and looked up to the sky, "I don't want her to say yes to me due to fear or pressure, I want her to truly love me too."

"What's the name of the girl that has gotten you completely mesmerized?"

"Rachel, her name is Rachel."

"Her,"

"Do you know her?"

"I've seen her a few times, but we haven't really spoken to each other."

"I'll introduce you to her, you'll like her."

"That will be nice"

After procrastinating for weeks, I finally decided to tell her on the last day of the month. I was terrified, but I have let fear get in my way for too long, I bought a rose flower I will give her. I waited till nightmare, because that's the best time for romance. My heart raced as I walked to her house, I knocked on the door and her mother opened.

"I am looking for Rachel," I said in my fine black suit.

She smiled, "You look really handsome in that, and a rose?" my face turned bright red, and I hid the rose behind me. She patted my head, "I have been waiting for you to tell her, the thing is she is not home right now, and I don't even know when she'll be back."

"Oh," I lowered my head,

"But I know where you can find her, go to the oak tree in the forest, it is her favorite spot, you might find her there."

"Okay!" I ran off.

The pathway was dark, no matter how many stones and sticks I stumbled on I didn't slow down, her mum gave me the final push I needed. I started hearing soft screams as I got closer to the oak tree, it sounded like Rachel so I picked up my pace. As I got to the tree, I saw Rachel on the floor, naked and Azriel on her, the voice I heard was Rachel, moaning.

My rose flower slipped from my hand and fell to the floor, my jaws dropped and my heart sunk. This was the first betrayal.
