Chapter 14 - Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover

[Xerxes Food Court]

Xerxes held Rachel who was unconscious captive, He wanted to finish her off but he remembered his apprentice took a liking in her, it was obvious his recent activities as of late was clearly him trying to hide his pain. One cannot mask true pain.

Rachel was kept in a containment cell deep under the Inn, it was Xerxes underground prison for his slaves. Those who he had taken under his wings in the past, he is currently 385 years old.

The dark society is a different realm from that of humanity where beings beyond comprehension resides. It's environment is filled with dark magic essence that makes it impossible for people to inhabit. The only known inhabitants are creatures of the dark, ancient and pure evil mythological creatures.

However few humans are known to have survived in the realm, only those with enough negative energy could survive here for a short time as they easily embrace the powerful dark magic essence amplifying their physical abilities and magic. Those who utilize this amplified magic are those truly regarded as Beast Sages.

Chained to the walls of a Dungeon was Rachel, she had shackles which binded her feet and arms. Her mouth and eyes were sealed with a thick piece of fabric.

Little by little Xerxes true intentions are revealed, the question is why is he after me? why did Rachel become useless to him the moment I arrived?

[Three hours later]

My left eye opened slowly before blinking repeatedly, I regained consciousness after being knocked out by the power of Delkon. The numbness of my body wore of and I began experiencing internal pain.

"Arr..gh.."

I groaned softly, my arms were badly injured in that battle but it wasn't anything too critical. I had bandages wrapped on my arms and chest. Who knew Xerxes was good in terms of medical application. I struggled to raise my upper body but I was swiftly stopped by the voice of Xerxes.

"Don't push yourself too hard kid, you took a pretty serious beating back there, you can feel it can't you?."

He was right anyways, my arms which I used in place of a shield creaked, it felt like an egg about to crack.

"Tch."

I lowered my back down on the bed and gazed upon the ceiling, I felt pathetic knowing I couldn't save anybody most especially Rachel.

"What happened..?"

Xerxes stared at me in with an emotionless look on his face, he felt like I just gave him one of the biggest stress he had ever come across but he couldn't blame me, I lost consciousness at the heat of battle.

"Delkon wiped the ground with you and put you in this state, remember that much? He was about to kill Rachel then I stepped in and saved her."

I shifted my gaze to Xerxes as he spoke, restraining from moving my upper body and worsening the pain.

"I saved you both and defeated Delkon."

A sigh of relief escaped from my mouth, you could say the end results of Xerxes interference lived up to my expectations, after all I admired him as one of the greatest wind mages out there.

"Where is Rachel?"

Almost immediately the thought of Rachel who I tried my best to protect crossed my mind, or was she in her room recuperating?

"She went away for a while but she'll be back soon, she mentioned something about celebrating the defeat of Delkon so you needn't worry."

He lied without remorse as well, maybe he wasn't prepared to lose another disciple on the same day, who knows what his motives exactly are.

"Oh..she could have celebrated with us though, I mean where does she plan on going?"

Xerxes let out a sigh getting up to his feet and walked towards the exit. He didn't feel the need to discuss anything further because as of now all I needed was a bit of rest in the eyes of Xerxes.

"Who knows, that's enough babbling for now, get some sleep Xavier."

With the instructions laid out, I simply nodded staring at the ceiling as I felt my eyes had been closed for a long time.

At the entrance of the door, Xerxes looked over his shoulders at me with a sadistic smile on his face, it would be quite horrifying if someone actually saw it. He closed the door before grinning and letting out a soft maniacal laughter.

"He's growing more powerful than I imagined, although it's not much it just shows it won't be long now, Xavier Storm."

Xerxes spoke softly in a dark tune, before he intervened he watched a little of the action so he could tell how greatly I've actually improved, he tried teaching me the aero surge but I ended up evolving the technique.

It also sounded like he had some kind of motive for me but it was unsure, is Xerxes who he say he really is? or is he really just delusional? Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Inside the room, I slowly raised my right hand into my line of vision, I groaned softly from the pain but it was bearable. Looking at my damaged hand I instantly recalled the events of the battle that occured and that left several questions roaming around in my head. I decided to check my current stats.

It seemed I had learn new abilities as projected from the holographic board, however my other features didn't improve at all.

"So I've grown that much in a short amount of time huh?"

My lips stretched sideways and a smirk was drawn on my face as a result of my realization.

"One day, I'll definitely be able to surpass you Xerxes and I'll make you proud."

My hand dropped slowly on the bed, it seemed dropping it down was more painful than raising it up, I got this much damage just from a punch? Damn I'm really that pathetic?

The journey's just began but in time I'll become the strongest mage in all of Elvesmore, the smirk evolved into a faint smile as my ambitions was slowly coming to light. However my smile was taken away when I realized smiling was for those who believed in happiness, my happiness was stripped from me years ago.
