Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A Dilemma

Mar calms himself, he needs three things now that the two wolves are dead: a drink of water, he is very thirsty; to collect his arrows from the two wolves bodies; and to get his bow back, from the bush he left it in.

Mar quickly goes to the two wolves bodies and pries the two arrows from their shoulder and neck, respectively. He rinses them off quickly in the water and cleans them. he did this to check if they are broken, and sure enough one of them is. Mar has five arrows in total now, he throws the broken arrow to the side and walks to another part of the lake to drink. He hasn't drank water in a while, the lake is blessing. While splashing water on his face he hears a sound behind him.

he whips his head to the side to look for enemies and his eyes lock onto two wolves, they came for a drink of water after their other two companions. They see their dead friends and howl, *AWHOOO*, "Oh no", Mar begins to think, "All I have is my dagger and five arrows in my quiver. My bow is in the bush 15 meters away, I can barely make it there before the wolves will get me. Even then, I couldn't draw an arrow fast enough to shoot one, let alone both of them." Mar starts slowly moving towards his bow anyway, its his only way for survival at this point. The wolves become enraged looking at their dead companions and rush towards Mar. Mar runs towards his bow and he calculates his distance to his bow, "I will barely beat the wolves to my bow, but I still can't draw my arrow fast enough to wound them both! My only solution is to wound one of the wolves with an arrow and keep running to separate the two."

While Mar is running he takes an arrow out of his quiver, hoping to quicken the time it takes to load the arrow into his bow. Mar makes it to his bow before the wolves, this is because he slowly walked towards it before the wolves started charging at him. He was lucky to get a head start or else he wouldn't have made it. Mar quickly nocks the bow and shoots it directly into the eye of one of the wolves. They were so close that it was an easy shot. Mar throws his bow to the side and unsheathes his dagger instantly. "One down", Mar says under his breath. The wolf reaches out to bite Mar's right arm and Mar strikes back in a panic.

*Clang!*

The wolf bites the tip of the dagger and snaps it clean off, Mar's eyes widen, "This power... Why is the wolf so strong!" Mar keeps dodging the wolf and the wolf keeps attacking. Mar thinks, "These wolves are way more powerful than any wolf on earth. Being able to snap the tip of a metal knife right off is insane!" Mar begins to tire before the wolf and he decides to try something.

Mar channels the unknown power in his body and fills his body uniformly with it. He makes sure that every finger and toe is coated with the power. His fatigue wipes away and his actions speed up. His eyes become more sharp and the wolf seems to slow down in his mind. The dodging that was initially tiring became easy and Mar starts to spot times when he was dodging that he could have counterattacked. Mar decides to go for a blow against the wolf. When the wolf snaps its jaw towards Mar's left arm he sidesteps the wolf and stabs the wolf in the side right behind its right shoulder.

The wound wasn't that clean since the tip of his dagger had been bitten off. Mar keeps skillfully looking for openings and he makes three more wounds before the wolf eventually dies of blood loss. Mar smiles victoriously, he only has one opponent left and it is the big wolf he had seen earlier, it has no clue that its whole pack has been wiped out. It is Mar's next victim.

Mar starts to walk over to his bow, he needs it desperately if he is going to fight the big wolf properly. He senses that the big wolf is going to be stronger, faster and more tough than any of the smaller wolves he has fought. Especially with his dagger damaged, the bow is his best shot to deal lethal blows to the big wolf. Mar spots his bow on the bush he had thrown it in earlier, but before picking it up he pulls out the arrow he shot through the first wolf's eye and returns it back to his quiver. He reclaims his undamaged fifth arrow and sets his target on the only wolf left.

Mar contemplates whether to use the destructive arrow against the big wolf. While he may not be prepared to handle the wolf without it, relying on that power incessantly and not improving his real strength as a hunter feels cheap. Mar decides to attack the big wolf with a normal arrow first to test its speed and reaction time. If it is able to dodge the arrow without injury then Mar will use the destructive arrow. If the normal arrow hits the big wolf and wounds it he will keep firing arrows to whittle down its health. Above being a better hunter, Mar values his life, and no matter what happens, he will not hesitate to use the strongest power in his arsenal against the wolf.

It is times like these where he is fighting surreal animals and borderline monsters that he thinks of where he is. While Mar doesn't remember who he is or what he was doing before he was transported to the dungeon, he does remember the world around him. Mar remembers that he lives in the year 2042 and that whole world has access to technology. From small devices the size of a finger that can show holograms to cars that can magnetically float on roads causing faster travel. How had he been transported from a world from boundless convenience to a place where he has to fight for his life, now is not the time to figure out.
