Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten.

Emrys walked over to Alannah who was watching her maids try their best to search the bodies of the fallen without getting any blood on themselves.

Emrys noticed that she seemed to act differently with her maids then she did with him. "Miss Alannah, is it alright if I speak with you this way from now on?" He projected his voice inside her head. It was much easier for him to speak this way so he wouldn't have such delayed words.

Alannah was startled at first but quickly regained her composure. She looked into Emrys's yellow eyes and tried to reply with her mind as well. "If it is easier for you then of course you may."

"Your quite impressive. To be able to speak with your mind so easily. Is this the first time you have used telepathy?" Emrys asked.

"Yes actually, it is." She smiled. She seemed thrilled that she was able to successfully reply to him.

"Is there anything you would have me do before we set off?" He saw the maids running around retrieving something from the dead humans and thought he should help them out if he could.

Alannah tried to think for a moment if there was anything they needed. "I know your a monster but do you perhaps know how to drive a wagon? Maybe that's a stupid question."

Emrys's mood elevated. "Leave it to me." Alannah was confused. She didn't think monsters knew about human concepts but maybe he will surprise her.

She watched as Emrys slowly approached the frightened horses. He walked in front of them and from Alannah's perception he stood there just like when he and the griffin were speaking.

"That's what he's doing?! He's speaking with the horses..."

"Danger! danger! We must run away!" The horse was clearly panicking.

Emrys held out his hands in a calming gesture. "Settle down, settle down my friends. There is no reason to be afraid anymore. I assure you."

Both horses stopped trying to break free from their harnesses and focused their attention on Emrys. "Ahh! What are you! Are you going to eat us?!" The brown horse was the first to speak.

"Its a monster! Were doomed..." The white horse replied and became depressed.

Emrys attempted to sooth the horses. "Its okay my friends, I mean you no harm. Here try one of these." The wood in his palm separated revealing a small amount of strange looking berries inside.

He pulled out one of the black colored berries for each of them and held it out for them to eat.

Both horses looked at each other with wary looks. They would normally never accept treats from people other then their masters because the treats from nobles were much better quality then from anyone else.

But they also could not resist. It had been hours since they had anything to eat or drink. So they relented and took the berries from his hands. When they crushed the berries their mouths were filled with some kind of liquid.

They both paused for a moment. Then their eyes opened wide, they had never tasted anything as good as this. It felt like a whole new level of food that goes beyond anything they ate before.

All the fear and worry disappeared in an instant, like it was never there in the first place. When they finally came back to their senses there was a wooden bucket of fresh water in front of both horses.

They lowered their heads and drank until there was nothing left. It safe to say they were now in a much better mood then before.

Emrys waited until they were done before speaking again. "My friends, I have a request id like to make of you."

"Yes, whatever you need!" The brown horse replied.

"Yes, yes! The white horse also replied.

"Could I ask you to take us back to where the humans live?" Emrys saw a little bit of hesitation in their eyes and decided to sweeten the deal. He held out two more of the black berries and offered it to them.

These were no ordinary berries one would find in the wild. Emrys cultivated them from special seeds he created. Since he is able to create plants from his own body he is also able to modify them as well.

The only thing he changed about those berries was the taste. He made them to be sweeter than anything else you could find in the forest. Although, that did make them take much longer and become more difficult to grow.

Emrys had no issues when it came to growing plants. The small bag he recovered from his cabin also had many of the seeds he had created over his many years of living. He keeps those seeds in a pouch because creating seeds and plants from his body take a lot of mana.

The horses eagerly took the berries from Emrys and agreed to take them back to the capitol.

Emrys walked back to where Alannah was standing and spoke to her telepathically. "It is done. They have agreed to pull the carriage."

"You actually spoke to the horses? And what was that you were giving them?" She was becoming more and more curious about Emrys the more she got to know him.

"Would you like to try one?" Emrys pulled out another of the berries and held it out to her.

She was a little hesitant but seeing how the horses devoured it she just couldn't resist. She tossed the berry into her mouth and chomped down on it. Her mouth was immediately filled with the sweetest juice she had ever tasted and she was a noble that had tried all the various desserts from professional chefs.

She spun around excitedly with her hands on her cheeks. She was completely taken over by this new treat.

Emrys also ate one while watching the noble lady dance around in pure bliss.

A few minutes later the maids returned with all of the I.D cards that belonged to the dead guards. They were placed inside a small wooden box for safe keeping. Some were still covered in blood.

"Alright, were ready to set off." Alannah called out. Emrys nodded and entered the wagon after the maids and Alannah. It was quite spacious on the inside.

Once every one was settled Alannah looked at Emrys and nodded. "Emrys, if you would."

With that, he asked the horses to start moving. The wagon moved swiftly through the forest. It was a bit of a bumpy ride but it was bearable.

While moving through the forest Emrys made sure to keep an eye out for any creatures that could cause them problems. There were a few but thankfully he was able to talk with them telepathically before they got close enough to do anything and persuaded them to let them pass.

Once they realized the guardian of the forest was inside the strange moving wooden box, they let them pass with no argument. Most of the forest creatures have the utmost respect for the guardian they were fine with letting them pass.

Sitting inside the wagon, Alannah noticed just how much larger Emrys was compared to herself. He was a towering seven feet tall and at least double the size of the royal guard.

It was definitely going to be a long ride back to the capital. It would take them a few hours just to make it out of the forest.

"So what are you going to do to disguise yourself once we get to the capitol?" Alannah asked trying to fill the silence.

Emrys had been thinking about that for a while now. If he wanted to walk among the humans he needed a convincing disguise.

Without saying a word, Emrys closed his eyes and focused. After a few seconds he started to shrink little by little until he was the same size and build of the average human male. Or at least what he thought was average for humans.

He was still on the larger side but it would suffice.

"Oh my, that's quite the useful ability you have there. Can you change into any shape or size?" She asked.

"There are limits, of course."

The maids were not able to follow their conversation because they were communicating telepathically so when Emrys suddenly began to shrink they were a bit startled.

Alannah calmed them down and explained the situation. After that they rode in silence for a while until they all fell asleep.

Alannah didn't realize how tired she was until the adrenaline wore off from almost being killed earlier.

The maids both sat across from Emrys and Alannah and leaned on each other while they slept. Emrys kept watch for any trouble along their journey. He had to send away the occasional creature but other than that it was a relatively peaceful ride.

Pretty soon Emrys felt the warm rays of sunlight on his body as they emerged from the forest.
