Chapter 48 - First Award

Snape refrained from deducting points! Harry's emerald green eyes widened in disbelief. The unexpected had happened – Luke's unconventional method had actually worked! Harry steadied his trembling mood and slowly settled into his seat.

"I didn't expect Snape not to deduct your points!" Ron exclaimed in a hushed voice, even he was taken aback.

"I didn't expect..." Harry shook his head, still trying to process the surprising turn of events. Was Luke right? Did Snape really avoid targeting women?

Whatever the case, Snape didn't deduct points from him! This realization brought a sly smile to Harry's lips. In every Potions class, Gryffindor would usually lose more than ten points whenever Harry was called up. But now, he was different.

Snape bent down to pick up his fallen wand, his gaze lingering on Harry. "So similar! That smile, those eyes... If we had a daughter, she might have looked like this."

A sense of grief clouded Snape's features. "It's just that after today, Harry will change back to that annoying face," he thought regretfully, stealing a glance at the girl chatting and laughing with Ron.

Out of the corner of his eye, Snape half-squinted and called Ron in his characteristic nasal voice, "Ron, answer me. How long does it take to boil the Water of Life and Death?"

"Huh?" Ron, caught off guard, looked blank. "Professor, we haven't learned that yet!"

"Preview in advance, why don't you?" Snape retorted coldly. "Go sit next to Luke. Let him replenish your barren brain."

Ron pursed his lips, reluctantly picking up his book and heading to the corner. "Why do I feel like Snape is targeting me?" he whispered to Luke.

"He's always targeted Harry before," Luke replied with a sideways glance. "But she's Harriet now."

"Why, you want to try this medicine too?" Ron asked cautiously.

"No, I don't want it," Ron replied promptly, afraid of falling victim to some unexpected potion.

The potion content for this class was straightforward – boiling some ordinary blood tonics, the most common potion. Ron followed in the footsteps of Luke and Hermione, aiming for dignified progress. The two scholars, known for their swift potion brewing, set the pace for the class.

Ron attempted to mimic the speedy movements of his neighbors, but before he could even assemble half of the ingredients, the duo beside him had already covered their crucible. He stood there dumbfounded, marveling at their incredible speed.

In a state of desperation, he resorted to following the steps outlined in the book. Professor Snape patrolled the potions classroom, occasionally fixing a fatherly gaze on Harry. After Luke and Hermione completed their brew, Snape generously awarded each of them 10 points for their respective houses.

Unfortunately, Ronald's brewing process took a disastrous turn as his crucible exploded. Quick thinking on Luke's part prevented Hermione and him from becoming the unintended victims of the hot potion. Hermione, still recovering from the scare, scolded Ron, "Don't you know that cold water is not allowed when brewing potions!"

"The book says..." Ron, with stubble-covered red hair, attempted to defend himself.

Snape's attention was predictably drawn to the commotion, and Gryffindor lost some points.

As the lesson progressed, even Harry, not known for his potion-making skills, successfully completed the task. This gave him a sense of accomplishment, a stark contrast to the initial failures under Snape's watchful eye.

However, the transformation could only last for twelve hours. Harry pondered on the challenges the next potions class might bring.

Approaching Harry, now a girl, Snape examined the peculiar-smelling blood tonic and frowned slightly. But upon seeing the cute face, he immediately softened. "Well done, much better than the previous few times," Snape commented in a faint voice. "Gryffindor plus ten points." He added, almost as an afterthought, "It's just for Lily's sake."

Surprised by the unexpected bonus points, Harry looked up with bright emerald green eyes. This was the first time Snape had awarded points in his class. It felt like a rare and extraordinary occurrence.

Later, as the group of four made their way back to the common room, Harry exclaimed, "You would never have thought that I would be awarded points by Snape! This is nothing short of a miracle!"

Hermione, Luke, and even Ron nodded in agreement. Luke, the source of the transformation solution, responded nonchalantly, "You're welcome, bud."
