At the afternoon dinner table, Harry declined an invitation to join the Gryffindor Quidditch team. He and Ronald were both frustrated and lay their heads on the table.
Snape had been particularly harsh in class that day, deducting a record-breaking 30 points from Gryffindor, an unprecedented occurrence in the history of the academy. Miss Hermione, who was usually eager to earn points, remained expressionless. Gryffindor was already at the bottom of the house point rankings, and the prospect of the House Cup seemed out of reach.
Luke sat beside them enjoying his dinner.
"Come on, eat more fruit!" Luke encouraged, offering a banana from the abundance of fruit provided by the house-elves.
"Thanks," Hermione mumbled with her mouth full, taking the banana and nibbling on it.
Luke then discovered a few additional photos in his pocket. He wondered if the frog had sent them. One of the photos featured the frog standing on a spring, seemingly normal. However, having raised the frog for eleven years, Luke could see subtle changes. The frog appeared to have longer eyelashes and bright red lipstick on its lips.
Luke, "???"
He noticed the return date in the lower left corner of the photo, which was two days in the future. Deciding to postpone his curiosity for now, Luke tucked the photo back into his pocket.
Suddenly, Hermione asked an unexpected question, "I heard you're dating Cho Chang of Ravenclaw?"
This question instantly caught Harry's attention. "Cho?" he inquired.
"No, I just met her once, okay?" Luke replied, shaking his head. He didn't find her particularly attractive.
He wondered who might have spread this rumor about him dating Cho. His thoughts turned to Cedric, who had been eyeing Cho in the stands during the Quidditch match. If it weren't for the Ravenclaw captain passing by, Cedric would have been the one assisting Cho when she fell into the crowd.
When Luke mentioned Cedric, Harry looked at him in disbelief, while Hermione appeared slightly nervous.
"Lee Jordan mentioned it," Hermione confessed.
Without hesitation, she bought the rumor monger's tale.
"Lee Jordan?" Luke repeated. He recalled this particular rumor; it involved Lee Jordan confessing his feelings to a girl during a conversation.
It seemed like he would have to seek out the Weasley twins to confirm this story.
After dinner, Ronald returned to Gryffindor's dormitory with Harry, both in low spirits. Meanwhile, Luke and Hermione spent some time studying in the library.
The deduction of house points had no bearing on Hermione's relentless pursuit of knowledge. She studied for herself, not for the glory of the house. After all, her aspiration was to become the "Minister of Magic."
Following their study session, Luke and Hermione separated at the spiral staircase after Madame Pince ushered them out of the library.
In Slytherin's common room, Luke glanced at Malfoy, who was engaged in his usual daily chatter, and called him and Crabbe into the dormitory.
"What's up, Geralt?" Malfoy asked curiously. After spending so much time together, his fear of Luke had mostly dissipated, especially since Luke had gifted him a game console. Malfoy's opinion of Luke had experienced a rapid shift.
"It's nothing," Luke replied. With a slight lowering of his head, he raised it again, and his roving eyes began to turn with purpose. "I just want the two of you to head to bed early."
With that, Malfoy and Crabbe promptly toppled onto the carpet.
Luke paid them no mind and began preparing his materials for potion-making. This night was destined to be far from ordinary.
After retrieving the necessary items from the alternate space, Luke placed all the ingredients into the cauldron, ready to commence the brewing process. Having lacewings that had already been boiled for 21 days saved a considerable amount of effort.
In just three or four hours, the brown potion in the cauldron had thickened slightly, emitting a faint odor.
Luke grabbed a clean bottle and poured a portion of the potion from the cauldron. He then added a strand of Peter Pettigrew's hair.
As the hair slowly descended into the cup, the previously brown potion instantly transformed into a black concoction, accompanied by an unpleasant, gag-inducing odor. It was difficult to stomach.
Pinching his nose in disgust, Luke looked at the foul brew. The taste and color of the polyjuice potion were determined by the hair of the individual being transformed, and this wretched, black potion with its pungent aroma belonged to Peter Pettigrew.
"Gross!"
Luke couldn't help but gag as he downed the potion. It was the first time he had ever brewed polyjuice potion, and he wasn't entirely certain if it would work.
The effects of the potion quickly took hold. Luke's body began to stretch and twist like rubber, growing larger with a bloated stomach. His once golden hair turned to a withered, Mediterranean-style white, and his handsome features gave way to an ugly countenance. Every aspect of his body, from bone structure to figure, underwent a complete transformation.
This was the magic of the polyjuice potion. However, it only lasted for an hour.
With the effects of the potion in full swing, Luke knew he needed to make his way to Professor Quirrell's office. If he recalled correctly, Peter Pettigrew played a pivotal role in Voldemort's resurrection, so he had to carry out this transformation to continue his mission.
"Tom, I am coming for you!" Luke muttered with an evil smile.
