Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: "Get hired first, Princess!"

Chapter 3

"Anna, my mother is waiting for you downstairs," Pearl whispered as she tapped me repeatedly.

I don't know why she talks that way, and it irks me.

Why is she so pretty, and why does she talk so much?

Arghhh, why is she so perfect?

No hate, though.

What? Why? "What's the time?" I asked sleepily.

"Remember, you're supposed to go see the CEO today," she replied, and I sprang up from the bed.

"Shit, shit, shit," I kept saying in my head as I stumbled around the room, trying to put my head together.

My head was in a mess, and so was my room. "Where the hell is my towel?" I yelled.

"You know what? I'll be down in, uh, five." Yeah, five minutes," I said, and that sent her away.

It saddens me that I can't go back to school. What's going to happen to the dreams I have of becoming a lawyer?

Why did my parents have to die?

I can't stress my parents deaths enough.

But I refuse to give up.

Giving up isn't me at all; I'll get the CEO to send me back home in two days. Good thing I'm not even cut out to be a maid.

"You're wearing that to go?" My aunt asked as she stared at me from head to toe. I was putting on my orange hoodie, cargo pants, and white Jordans.

I returned her look with a "what's wrong with it?" expression.

"Are you stupid?" "You look richer than the damn CEO, you fool!" she yelled in her annoying western accent.

She hates me

I just stood there, staring at my legs. I mean, this is the most casual outfit I have; all my other clothes are like this.

I was rich five minutes ago!

"Pearl, honey, go bring her something from the clothes you stacked up for the orphanage."

Wow.

I've always lived my life based on flight or fight. When something happens, I immediately know if I am capable of fighting or if I should just run, but the sudden death of my parents has made that ideology feel like a joke.

Here I am, about to be a maid, unable to fight or run, too scared to be alone.

Coupled with the fact that I've never been attracted to guys or girls. I've never even had friends because everyone thinks I'm weird.

Pearl came down with the clothes—a floral gown that looked like it was worn by girls in the countryside in 10000 B.C.

"Thanks," I whispered, and I rushed to put it on before my aunt dragged all my hair out.

Yes, of course.

I looked terrible, and it definitely wasn't a perfect fit.

Before I got down again, Pearl had already left, so it was just my aunt and me.

"We need to hurry; he needs to leave for work," she grumbled, and I began to walk while I slowly trudged behind her.

"Don't I have to pack my bags or something?" I mumbled.

"Get hired first, princess!" She yelled.

We got into the rusty, hand-me-down car my uncle gave her. The windows didn't work and were stuck in place, while the doors took two arms and a lot of strength to open.

"Don't slam it; it'll get jammed," she warned when I finally managed to get in.

Oh boy.

It was a long drive to the mansion. I fell asleep a couple of times, and the air conditioner didn't work, so I kept waking up against my will.

"Wake up, we are here," she announced, and I wiped the drool off my chin.

The gates were heavenly; I can't believe how shiny they are.

"How may we help you?" A tall man in uniform asked through my aunt's window.

"We are here for the maid job," she replied with a friendly smile.

He nodded and signalled for two others to open the gates; they did, and we drove in.

I gasped at the sight of the mansion; it was nothing like I imagined. I have been to a few mansions myself, but they were nothing compared to this one.

The opulent mansion has beautiful flowers around it, and a giant Cupid fountain sits in the middle.

Its breathtaking entryway was the definition of a life I would never have.

My aunt got down, and I did too; her eyes were glossy too. Who would see this and not be in awe?

The entire place was extremely neat, and we stood for a few minutes before an older lady in a maid uniform walked towards us.

"Hello, are you here for the maid job?" She asked, pushing a strand of her loose black hair back into the high bun the rest was in.

"Yes, please," my aunt replied.

I was so carried away with how luxurious the looks were that I almost forgot I was here to become a maid.

"Please come with me".
