Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: 024

I opened my eyes later, and two bulgy eyes stared at me.

"Hi, I'm Sarah," she smiled.

Sarah? Sarah? I immediately remembered where I was, and I sat up immediately.

All the other girls were equally awake.

"Hey, I'm Anastasia, but everyone calls me Anna," I replied drowsily.

"Okay, your uniform came in an hour ago," she said, handing the clothes to me. It was a blue gown with white buttons and a cap to match. It looked like something an air hostess would put on.

"An hour ago?" I asked, wondering how long I had been asleep.

"Here is your tag." She gave me a golden tag with the numbers 024.

The rest of the day was quiet as I got to know the other maids, including the eldest and the boss of the room, Mary.

Three days later...

As the sun rose over the grand estate, casting a warm glow on the sprawling gardens, a new day began for me, the recently hired maid.

I had spent the past few days familiarising myself with the mansion's layout, learning the household routines, and getting to know Sarah.

Sarah is a seasoned maid with months of experience. She is kind-hearted and patient, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer guidance. I admire Sarah's efficiency and attention to detail, but I'm not ready to be a maid.

My mission is to get the master to send me back home.

On this particular morning, I was assigned to assist with his morning routine, and I am indeed looking forward to it.

I had my shower, and at exactly 6 a.m., I was completely dressed, and I stormed to his study.

As I entered his study, I noticed a stack of papers on his desk that needed organising. I set to work, meticulously arranging the documents in what I believed to be the correct order.

Immediately after I finished organising the papers, he entered the room. He glanced at the meticulously arranged stack. I stared at him.

His face turned red with frustration, and I became puzzled.

What on earth did I do wrong?

"What is the meaning of this?" He exclaimed, his voice filled with irritation. "These papers were in perfect order! How could you have messed them up?"

My heart sank as I realised my mistake. I stammered, trying to explain herself, but my words only seemed to further infuriate him.

He dismissed me from the room, instructing me to leave the papers as they were and to never touch them again.

Something burned at the back of my throat, and I felt my eyes sting.

"This is exactly what I want, but why does my heart ache so much?" I asked myself when I was finally outside, blinking the tears away.

I retreated to the kitchen, where I found Sarah cleaning up the breakfast tray. Tears welled up in my eyes as I recounted the incident to her. Sarah listened attentively, her expression filled with empathy.

"I'm so sorry, Anna," she said, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Mistakes happen, especially when we're new. It's important to learn from them and strive to do better next time."

I nodded,

"Thank you," I replied, and as I was about to join her in her duty, Penelope walked in.

"024, the master wants you in his office now."

I glanced at Sarah, but she just looked away.

"Okay," I replied, and I walked out of the kitchen, leaving Penelope and Sarah.

I knocked on the door and went in after hearing a faint "come in."

"Yes, Master," I bowed.

"Lift your head," he replied, and I did.

He got up from his seat and strode to me, and as he got closer, I took a step backwards, scared of what he might do to me.

He kept coming closer until I was backed up against the wall.

"What are you doing?" I managed to say, and he shot fiery red eyes at me. I had already confirmed that he was a lunatic at that point.

"I wanted to apologise for yelling at you a few minutes ago," he whispered. His hot breath on my face made my knees tighten.

"You're forgiven." I swallowed.

He raised my chin with his fingers, and our eyes met. He stared deep into mine, and I just watched, unable to read what they were trying to say.

"How can anyone be so emotionless?" I thought.

I saw his lips lower, but instead of pulling away, I just stood there, closing my eyes.

His breath got hotter, and I waited for his lips to meet mine. After a few seconds, I heard the words

"Leave"

I immediately opened my eyes and saw that he was back at his desk.

My face flushed with embarrassment, and I started running the second I was out the door

I didn't stop till I got to the room, and I jumped into my bed. The room was empty; everyone was obviously doing their assigned duty while mine was tormenting me.

What kind of person is he?

Is he normal, or does he just like to play games with little girls?

I grabbed my purse in search of my phone, but I couldn't find it. I needed to tell my aunt to come get me out of this sick place.

The door opened behind me, and Sarah walked in

"Have you seen my phone?" I was already panicking.

"Penelope took it; we are not allowed to have phones or any connection with the outside world; the master commanded it." She smiled, and I pitied the poor 19-year-old.

"And you don't think that's sick?" I asked in disbelief.

"We owe it to him; he is paying us a lot," she finished, and my jaw dropped.

"Wow, that is pathetic." I wasn't about to have a fight with my only friend, so I just fell to my bed and covered my face with my hands.

I'm getting out of here, whether "the master" likes it or not.
