Chapter 9 - 0-9

The week before the meeting dragged terribly for Yu Qingyu.

Aside from two more trips to the city, he spent most of his time in the base. Thankfully, it was so big that aside from meals, he hardly ever ran into Liu Wei. He could just work on the technological systems in peace.

'Damn, Chen Rumin's technology is really something else…' Yu Qingyu stood on a hovering disk by the ceiling of one of the main hangars. As one of the entrances to the base, it had complex shielding and attack systems, serving as the first line of defense in case their location is discovered and they are attacked.

Although Yu Qingyu already knew they were impressive, thanks to the layout he received from 520 on his first day in this world, only seeing it in person did he realize just how exceptional Chen Rumin was. With the systems like that, they really did not have to worry about anything.

'So, I will need to disable it all before the council arrives?'

After discussing the options with 520, Yu Qingyu decided the best course of action would be to deliver the coordinates of the base to Li Hangu. They could plan the ambush at night, when Liu Wei was asleep. Yu Qingyu would let them in, and then they could easily capture Liu Wei, without any casualties…

[Yes, otherwise the turrets will start shooting as soon as the sensors are triggered. You can manage all the systems from the control room. There's also a control panel by the door, although you cannot access the rest of the base from it, just this hangar.]

'Alright.' Yu Qingyu moved further to look at the shield generator. If he could show it at the assessment in two days, he would make a great impression without a doubt. He needed to do well to ensure that Li Hangu would talk to him. 'Just to make sure, those are all Chen Rumin's inventions, right?'

[Yes. The technology is based on the same principles the city uses, but is improved and far more advanced.]

Yu Qingyu nodded his head, holding his chin, lost in thought. 'Are there any blueprints anywhere?'

[Yes, they should be in…]

"Rumin!"

Yu Qingyu suddenly heard Liu Wei's voice calling him from the ground, interrupting his conversation with the system. Forgetting he was on a hovering disk, he turned around rashly, and lost his balance. His feet slipped on the edge, and he fell off from the height. Terrified, he let out a scream and shut his eyes.

Liu Wei immediately reacted. In a split second, he kicked off the ground, and caught Yu Qingyu almost right after he started falling. Carrying him in his arms, he landed softly.

Yu Qingyu's heart was beating wildly. He expected to crash on the ground, and end up with all of his bones broken or worse, but instead, he ended up in a strong embrace. He took a deep breath, relieved, and slowly opened his eyes.

And his heartbeat speeded up even more, as his face went red.

Of course, he already knew that it was Liu Wei who saved him. But seeing his face so close, and being pressed against his chest, are completely different things.

"Ahem, th-thank you," he said, clearing his throat.

"No problem. Are you alright?"

"Ye-yes. You can put me down now." Yu Qingyu was looking to the side, avoiding Liu Wei's eyes.

Liu Wei listened and slowly put him on the ground. However, as soon as he was on his feet, Yu Qingyu grabbed Liu Wei's sleeve, as he was about to fall down. His legs were all jelly.

Liu Wei observed him carefully. "You sure you're alright? Can you walk?"

"Ye-yes, of course!" However, contrary to his words, Yu Qingyu couldn't make a single step. What just happened was simply too much for him, he felt weak and as if he was about to faint. He has never been good with thrills.

Seeing him in this state, Liu Wei sighed and shook his head with a slight smile. Then, he picked up Yu Qingyu again, and carrying him princess-style, started walking toward the exit.

"You don't need to do this!" Yu Qingyu protested.

Despite his protests, Liu Wei continued to hold him in his arms. "Yeah, sure," he just said, and carried on.

Yu Qingyu covered his face with his hands, and stayed silent until they reached his room. He wanted to protest more, but he doubted it would have much effect.

Liu Wei carefully put him on his bed. "I'll bring you something to drink, to calm your nerves."

"There's no need." Yu Qingyu shook his head, rejecting the offer. He could use something nice, maybe hot chocolate, but even if Liu Wei would be able to fulfill his wish, he didn't want Liu Wei to do anything more for him. He was already feeling guilty enough. "By the way, was there anything you wanted?"

"Oh, that can wait." Liu Wei waved his hand dismissively. "I just damaged my scooter earlier. But don't worry about that now, you can just take a look at it tomorrow, or whenever you have the time."

"Alright, I'll do it tomorrow."

Liu Wei smiled at him and left the room. As soon as the door closed behind him, Yu Qingyu let out a long sigh.

'Subordinate? How is Chen Rumin his subordinate? He can do anything he wants, doesn't need to report anything, and even when Liu Wei needs something from him, he can just do it whenever he feels like.'

[Like I said before, he is more like a younger brother. But is that really what concerns you know? Or is this because you're shy after he carried…]

'Stop it,' Yu Qingyu interrupted 520 with a frown. It was not the first time 520 suggested such things, and it made Yu Qingyu uncomfortable. He was about to betray Liu Wei after all, so developing any sort of connection would only hurt him more in the end.

Although it probably wouldn't make that much difference for Liu Wei. Since he believed that Yu Qingyu was Chen Rumin, his companion whom he spend a few years with, his betrayal would be devastating regardless.

'I need to at least make sure he never finds out what really happened then…' Yu Qingyu decided.
