Chapter 456 - 183

I followed them down the hall and across the Academy campus to a building that was rarely used. There were nearly fifty masked people assembled, although the three that had brought me into the society were the only ones wearing the silver skull pendants. I later learned that these were the leaders of the necromancers. They had set up an altar with candles burning all around it. The body of a dead deer was placed upon it for all to see. I watched in amazement as they raised the animal from the dead! It looked hideously deformed, but it was still able to walk around among us afterward. Our identities were kept secret from each other throughout the night.

I probably would have spent a lot of time learning to be an alchemist, but with these new lessons, I had to make a choice:

We gathered once a week from that night forward. During my time at the Academy, I never learned the identities of any of my fellow secret society members, and only the silver skull-wearing necromancers knew mine.

My Summoning class was always interesting. We learned to create protective circles and to bring forth all kinds of animals, demons, and elementals from various planes. It was important to maintain control of the creatures that were summoned. I had a really difficult Summoning assignment during my first year.

I summoned a water sprite, and my teacher was content, even though the creature soaked everyone in the front row.

One of the new subjects that we had to study at the Academy was Arcana. This included everything from the theory of magic to magical artifacts. We learned about the nature of reality and how our mystical energies were able to change the very fabric of existence.

My teachers were happy to see how enthusiastic I was about learning everything. I spent many hours studying Arcana and reading extra books on the subject.

It was during my second year at the Academy that I had my big Divination test. We were given a blank piece of paper and told to write down the answer. Our task was to use our magic to divine what the question was.
