Chapter 455 - 182

Master Durgan nodded. "That is an honest answer and the best reason to have come."

"There are other schools to learn regular subjects, but only the Academy teaches magic. Please, come inside."

He smiled knowingly and led me to the testing chamber.

Master Durgan placed his hands on my head and concentrated. After a few moments, he nodded his bald head in approval. "Yes, the spark is within you. Welcome to the Academy."

I was given a room in the Academy, which included a bed, a desk, and a chair. It was very sparse, but it was my own. I was also given a schedule of classes. My training as a wizard had begun.

Although I learned many things at the Academy, my favourite class was…

The creating of magical potions. Alchemists are the most versatile of wizards because their potions have the potential to duplicate the effects of most of the other disciplines. Also, their potions can be used by anyone, allowing the magic to be stockpiled and stored for future use.

I was on the road to becoming an alchemist.

(Alchemy +30)

My classes went well as I began to learn the arcane arts. It was a lot of work, reading ancient tomes and trying to force mystical energies to do as I wished. I learned a little bit of everything that was taught during my time at the Academy.

It was lonely, but I wasn't there to make friends, I was there to master magic. Those days I spent alone were beneficial to my studies, and I learned a lot in those years.

It was late one night in my first year when I was scared out of my wits. I had been sound asleep in my bed when I heard someone say, "Your life shall begin anew."

I sat upright and was terrified to see a group of people standing around the bed in my tiny room. They were wearing black robes, masks, and silver necklaces shaped like skulls. One of them held a black robe and mask out to me. I knew right away that I was being invited to join the secret society of necromancers that operated out of the Academy.
