Chapter 18 - No good deed goes unpunished

Kilin glanced at her cousin asking for help but Luna lowered her head and continued working on her homework. She knew better than to challenge her mother's authority thus she didn't interfere. Another reason was that she was upset that Kilin let her friend Keele push Wyatt. She had witnessed the entire thing and couldn't go over to him because Myan beat her to it. She didn't want to seem desperate thus she messaged him later to check if he was okay. He was yet to respond to her message.

Realising she was on her own she stammered, "I... it was a punishment... I had to pick up the sports equipment after sports."

Mrs Branson snorted coldly before saying, "You might not be an active member of the Branson family but you are after all part of the Branson empire. Don't drag our family name down."

Kilin lowered her head and answered, "Yes Aunty."

"Look at me when I talk to you... Do you understand," she said her tone venomous and authoritative.

Kilin raised her head and answered again this time her voice stern, "Yes Aunty."

As the Maybach pulled away into the highway, the silence within the car was suffocating. Kilin took out her cell phone and checked her messages. Her mother had replied but her responses made her heart sink.

Mum: Listen to your aunt and don't make trouble.

Mum: She has an important event tomorrow and needs you to be there.

Mum: She is taking you to get clothes.

Mum: I love you.

Kilin didn't bother to respond. She exited the message app and checked the messages from Reckless25.

Reckless25: I am open to negotiating the price.

Kilin bit her lip before typing back.

RoyalRose: It's not about the money.

After she sent the message she heard her aunt's judgemental voice say, "With the number of school fees being coughed up you spend your time being a troublemaker and not doing homework... Useless."

Was it only her who noticed or was her aunt being extra mean to her today? She never used to care what Kilin was doing and only showed her an ugly expression but today she was complaining so much.

"I... I can only do it when I get home," she said and Luna glanced at her before going back to the screen displaying her chemistry homework.

"Then I will tell your mother to get you a tablet," said before taking out her cell phone and typing something.

Kilin who had purposefully left her tablet at home, "..."

She opened her messages with Keele sent her complaints.

Kiki: (catcrying.gif)

Kiki: The witch is working overtime today.

Kiki: SOS.

While Kilin was sending help me messages to Keele, there was someone else who was crying for help.

Arwen's heart raced as he walked out of the school premises, his nose throbbing from the bruise. The incident had left him shaken to the core and he just wanted to be home.

But before he could make his way to safety, a firm grip clamped down on the back of his collar, yanking him backwards.

"Mr. Arwen... my young master would like to have a word with you."

Startled, Arwen turned to face his captor, his eyes widening as he recognized the person. It was Wyatt's bodyguard. He knew him because his father worked for President Ainsworth, Wyatt's father.

His father had always pushed him to get along with Wyatt but the young man was a cold glacier that wouldn't let anyone within his radius. Despite being from the same school and being in the same class for years they had never spoken to each other.

His grip tightened, forcing Arwen into the waiting Land Rover parked just outside. Arwen's panic intensified as he tried to break free, but a strong bodyguard held him firmly in place.

The car's door slammed shut, enclosing him in a confined space with the intimidating Wyatt. His cold and indifferent figure seemed to hold power over everyone in their school and was now sitting in front of him scaring him half to death at a glance. Fear consumed him, and he could feel his heart pounding in his chest.

Wyatt's voice cut through the silence, his tone laced with curiosity and a hint of menace. "So Arwen, what's the story between you and Kilin?"

Arwen's mind raced. Who knew that his good deed would lead him here? He was truly starting to think that the saying 'no good deed goes unpunished' was true. He had saved her from choking and in return he got struck by a volleyball several times, almost broke his nose and now he had attracted the devil to his doorstep.

"I uh... she was choking so I I saved her that's all I swear," he hurriedly explained and Wyatt tilted his head slightly as though trying to figure out if he was telling the truth.

"My- my dad sent my driver to pick me up. Yo-you can drop me off here," he continued to say but Wyatt gestured at his phone.

Arwen found that his father had messaged him. With a trembling hand, he opened the message. His dad had just told him to cosy up to the young master and make friends with him for his sake. That's when he knew that Wyatt had gone through his dad to get to him.

"I really just started talking to Keele and I am really not familiar with them," he said taking the topic back to the subject at hand.

Wyatt's piercing gaze bore into Arwen's soul, his eyes seemingly searching for the truth. He wanted to refute his claims considering that Keele and Kilin were best friends and Keele defended Arwen so much so that she risked getting into his bad side.

"Is that so?" he replied, a sly smile curling on his lips. "Well then, give me her number."

"Who? Keele's?" he asked as he hastily looked for the number she had given him today. Wyatt stopped him saying, "No... I want Kilin's."

Arwen felt a chill run down his spine as he trembled under Wyatt's demand. His mind raced, realising that he didn't have Kilin's number. Fearful of the consequences, he stammered, "I... I don't have it."

Wyatt's smile widened, exuding an unsettling confidence. "Then I will give you until noon tomorrow to get it for me," he said as the car finally came to a stop, and Arwen's heart skipped a beat as he saw his estate loom in the distance.

The bodyguard released his grip, allowing Arwen to stumble out of the vehicle. He watched as the Land Rover drove away, leaving him standing there, shaken and vulnerable.
