By the time the group leaves the lab, the Johto region is covered by the night sky. They make it all they way back to route 30 before Quil walks into a tree.
Bay: We probably should've rested at the lab and leave in the morning.
Roco: We're going to be out camping in the night for a long time while we're on this journey, might as well start now.
Quil: You're right Roco but still, I can barely see. Maybe I can use my flames to light up the area.
Quil ignites the flames on his back and immediately sets all the tall grass on fire. Roco sprays the flames with water but the damage is already done. Out of the chared grass comes hundreds of angry Pokémon disturbed from their sleep.
Quil: Run.
The group attempt to run over to Mr. Pokémon's house but are blocked by a group of Spinarak. The Pokédex flashes.
SPINARAK REGISTERED.
They're surrounded but before they are attacked, they're snatched away. They fly through the air but can't see who's dragging them away. They end up in Dark Cave, still unable to see what's going on.
Roco: Where are you guys?
Bay: We're right here. Quil, use your flames to light up the area.
???: Did you not learn anything from before?
Quil sparks back up his flames and reveals a Zubat girl. She retreats back into the darkness when she's exposed.
Zubat Girl: C-Can you turn that off please?
Quil: Oh sorry.
He turns the fire off.
Zubat Girl: What is wrong with you guys!? What made you think it was smart to set nearly an entire route on fire!?
Roco: Her personality changed so quickly.
Zubat Girl: You guys were so heavy too. I don't even know how I was able to carry you guys all the way to this cave.
Bay: Why did you even save us?
Zubat Girl: Oh that's easy, because you guys have the same device that other kid had.
Quil: What the Pokédex?
He pulls it out of his pocket and it flashes.
ZUBAT REGISTERED.
Zubat Girl: Ahh! Turn it off! Yes that thing.
Quil: What do you want with him?
Zubat Girl: He kidnapped my friend from here. I want to save him from that kid.
Quil: Then let's make a deal. You help us find the theft and we help you get your friend back.
Zubat Girl: That's perfect. We'll start in Violet City in the morning.
Quil: Sure, this cave is better than out there.
The two create an alliance and the Zubat girl, Gol, is the first member to join their team.
