As the group leaves route 30 into Cherrygrove, Quil accidentally bums into someone. The egg goes flying into the air but Bay jumps up to catch it.
Bay: You have to be more careful when you're caring fragile things.
Quil: Yeah you're right. I'm sorry-
He looks up and sees someone who looks exactly like himself. The Pokédex beeps.
DITTO REGISTERED.
Quil: What the...
Other Quil: Get out of my way!
The copycat shoots an Ember at Quil but he dodges it. In the chaos, the imposter runs off. When the dust settles, one of the Pokédexes is gone.
Roco: Oh no, what are going to do? The Professor is going to kill us.
Bay: Wait, I think we might have our first lead.
Bay picks up a trainer ID that was dropped by the thief. The name on the ID is Silver.
Bay: It looks like he's a Pokéman just like us. But what's a Ditto?
Quil: Let's bring it to Professor Elm, he might know what to do.
They make it back to the lab to tell Elm the news.
Elm: What!? Oh no what am I going to do? I worked so hard on those things and so did the others and now half of our hard work is gone.
Quil: It's okay Professor, we have his trainer ID. Can't we just give it to the police and they can help?
Elm: Really? You kids are life savers! I'll call Officer Jenny right now. In the mean time, I'll take this egg off of you guys' hands and start trying to figure out what kind of Pokémon it is.
Roco: By the way Professor, we've been meaning to ask you something...
Bay: Can we finally start the gym challenge? We can even get data for the Pokédex while we're out there.
Elm: Oh absolutely not. That thief is still out there and I'd die if one of you kids got hurt.
Quil: We can help bring that thief to justice if you just believe in us! We're not little kids anymore. All of us have even hit the age when we can legally participate. Please Professor.
Elm: Are you sure? I can't in good conscience send you all out in this dangerous world.
Quil, Roco, & Bay: We're 100% sure.
Elm: Alright then, I'll trust you guys but please, don't get hurt.
With Professor Elm's blessing, the kids leave the lab to begin their journey to retrieve the Pokédex and become champions of the Indigo League.
