Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Echoes of Consequences

Necro's stern expression betrayed his unease as he confronted the dangerous consequences of his actions.

Necro: No way, I will not let that happen again.

With a determined resolve, he commanded, "Absorb sword," causing the ominous blade to vanish into thin air.

System: "DNA acquired: 'living sword,' 4 skills."

Necro's grip tightened, his attention shifting to the second target. "Absorb slime number 2"

System: "Slime number 2, 4 skills."

In an instant, the second slime disappeared, leaving behind a trail of peculiar energy.

As the tension settled, Necro's voice resounded, "It's already afternoon, so what do we know so far?"

Faye, ever the cautious observer, chimed in, "I tried to alert you; that dumb wolf tried too. The system only alerted when it was almost too late."

Necro acknowledged her insight, a hint of gratitude in his tone. "Yes, thank you." Faye's victorious gesture was met with a sheepish smile. "WOLF, you are the best wolf in the world."

Faye struggled to comprehend the sudden change, stammering, "But... but..."

Necro seized the moment, shifting the conversation's course. "Each skill forced a level up in that living sword. That thing only became alive when I forced a 4th skill in it."

The pieces clicked for him, and he continued, "Let me remember it. I used the femur bone, then teeth, then essence, and later eyes. That's it—4 parts of the same monster were almost my end. I was not considering the bone in the count."

Faye wove a tale of caution, her imagination taking flight. "Maybe that's why that job is so dangerous. Picture this: The sword kills you and starts roaming around, becoming bigger and bigger. It kills people and evolves until it destroys everything in the world, eating chunks of land and becoming larger. It starts to consume whole planets. That's a 'planet's killer,' a freak."

Necro chuckled, appreciating the creativity. "Indeed, I didn't know an AI could be so imaginative."

Faye grinned impishly. "Imagination or possibility? That last skill was very scary."

Necro's eyes twinkled with mischief. "Speaking of that, before I added those eyes, I got a very good skill—a regenerative sword would be very useful. Too bad I lost it."

Faye played her role to the hilt, declaring, "That's why I'm here—the heroine who will save your ass, Fu fu fu."

Necro chuckled at her villainous imitation. "That's a villain laugh, I think. But what do you mean?"

Faye leaned in with a conspiratorial grin. "I asked the system to add each skill to your database."

Necro's eyes widened in delight. "Oh? I would kiss your mouth right now if you had one my size. But let's keep thinking about everything we know so far. Help me think."

Necro's mind whirred with possibilities as he mused aloud, "Learning a skill may force a level up, it looks like. Leveling up may also force a skill to show up."

Faye's skepticism surfaced. "Dunno, that's a conjecture."

Seizing the opportunity to unravel the mystery, Necro questioned the system, "Hey, system, is my theory correct?"

System's voice remained nonchalant, "Dunno. I am here to report what happened."

Necro's frustration was palpable. "What the fudge! List all my jobs and skills."

And so, as the sun cast its fading light across the landscape, Necro and Faye delved deeper into the enigma that surrounded them, determined to uncover the hidden truths that would shape their path forward.
