Chapter 18 - A loosen tongue expresses

In the heart of city C, there is a safe haven for all the survivors where a man named Vinci stayed. He was a reserved and indifferent soul, who did not know how to express his feelings. But deep within his heart, a storm of emotions raged, a tempest of feelings he couldn't quite comprehend. For the past weeks, he had harbored an unspoken love for a woman named Jenny, a woman whose laughter and smile could light up the darkest corners of the camp.

Jenny, with her vibrant eyes and a smile that could melt even the iciest of hearts, was a beloved figure in the camp. She possessed an indomitable spirit, a zest for life that was contagious. She always wears a smile when taking good care of her patients and even when she is outside the laboratory she makes sure that everyone she meets will have a beautiful day.

She and Vinci have been together for the past weeks since Vinci was her patient. They both feel the same however, Vinci is a tongue-tied person who does not know how to express his feelings to her. One day, before Vinci leaves the camp, Jenny takes courage and asks him to meet her up on the same tree that they always go to.

On the night before Vince leaves, the village is cast into a state of gloom as news spreads that Jenny has been attacked by a zombie and is in critical condition. The vibrant light that had shone from her had dimmed, and a somber cloud settled over the village. Vinci's heart ached as he watched from a distance, feeling helpless as Jenny's condition worsened with each passing minute. It was suggested by Frankenstein that Jenny needed a major operation to have any chance of survival, an operation that carried its own risks.

Vinci's internal struggle intensified. He couldn't bear the thought of losing Jenny, the woman who had ignited a fire within him. Yet, he remained paralyzed by his own inability to articulate his feelings. He would sit by her bedside, watching her chest rise and fall with each labored breath, his heart heavy with the unsaid words that danced on the tip of his tongue.

The moment of the operation arrived after everyone agreed to it, casting a pall of anxiety over the entire camp. Everyone trusts Frankenstein even though he has an evil nature; they know how Frankenstein loves to play with a person's body. Vinci stood outside the hospital room, his hands clenched into fists, his thoughts a whirlwind of uncertainty. He wanted to heal her but his magic won't let him so he can only wait for the result of the operation.

Hearing that there were zombies outside of the camp, his mind became blank, and immediately rushed to the entrance. He froze everything in front of him and killed those iced zombies. Never in his mind appeared the word backlash as he used strong and destructive magic. After killing every zombie, he knelt down and blamed himself. He rushed back to the operating room to check on Jenny.

Inside the operating room, Frankenstein worked tirelessly to mend Jenny's fragile body. Vinci paced the hallway, his every step echoing the tumultuous rhythm of his heart. Hours stretched into eternity, and as the sun rose above the horizon, he sank to his knees and wished for Jenny's survival.

Finally, the doors to the operating room swung open, and Frankenstein emerged with a grave expression. He approached everyone with a solemn look in their eyes. "The operation was a success," he said, his voice a balm to Vinci's and everyone's battered heart. "But she's still in a critical condition. We'll have to wait and see."

Vinci's relief mingled with a renewed sense of urgency. He realized that time was fleeting, that the moment to share his feelings was slipping through his fingers like grains of sand. Gathering his resolve, he entered Jenny's room, his heart pounding like a drum.

Jenny lay pale and fragile, her chest rising and falling in a rhythmic pattern that gave testament to the battle she was fighting. Vinci approached her bedside and took her hand in his, his fingers trembling slightly.

"Jenny," he began, his voice soft but resolute. "I've watched you from afar for so long, afraid to let you see the depths of my feelings. But now, with the uncertainty that hangs in the air, I can't keep these words hidden any longer. You've brought light into my life, a light that has warmed even the coldest corners of my heart."

Tears welled in Vinci's eyes as he continued, his voice steady despite the emotion that threatened to engulf him. "I love you, Jenny. I love your laughter, your spirit, and the way you see beauty in the world even when it's shrouded in darkness. I've loved you from the moment you took care of me, and I'll love you for as long as my heart beats."

"You are the first person who showed me what love is. This heart of mine that was asleep has woken up." He added.

As he spoke, Jenny's eyelids fluttered, and her lips curved into the faintest of smiles. Vinci's heart swelled with hope, and he squeezed her hand gently, his fingers entwined with hers.

Days turned into weeks, and Jenny's condition gradually improved. Vinci remained by her side, holding onto her hand and recounting stories of their camp, of the beauty of the world outside where people unite for their survival, of the love that General Dan has for his people, and the love that had finally found its voice. Jenny listened, her eyes filled with gratitude and affection.

One crisp morning, as the sun painted the sky with shades of gold and pink, Jenny's eyes met Vinci's with a newfound strength. "I heard your words," she whispered, her voice a fragile echo. "And I've loved you too, in ways I could never express."

Vinci's heart soared, and he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Jenny's forehead. In that moment, the weight of unspoken words dissolved, replaced by the understanding that their love was a force stronger than any obstacle. It was a love that had weathered uncertainty, illness, and the fragility of life itself. In the embrace of their love, Vinci and Jenny found solace, strength, and the courage to face whatever the future held.

In that sweet moment, a blue butterfly passed by and took their attention. Knowing that this butterfly is Caden's, Vinci asked permission to Jenny that he would go outside for a while.

''I am glad that everything is fine.'' Caden said with concern.

''How did you know what will happen that night?" Vinci curiously asked Caden as it was really surprising that he knew something would happen at the camp.

"There is no need to explain."

"So, what will you do now? Will you still look for your student?" Caden is nosy.

"I am going to look for my student. I don't know what happened to him." He answered.

"Are you sure you have a student?"

When Caden asks him this, the atmosphere is filled with surprise. What does he mean by asking this? Vinci already informed him that he has a student. Even the people in the camp know David. However, Vinci ignored his question; Caden might be teasing him.

"If I may suggest, stay in the camp for a while. My student will be passing by." Caden suggested.

"Was it successful?" the man asked his doctors.

"Yes, it was." They answered.

The man is filled with joy upon hearing the news and he turns to her sister who is inside the capsule in a vegetative state.

'' I'll bring you back Lily." He promised to her little sister.
