Chapter 19 - A fake letter

Weeks have passed and Jenny is able to go back to her work as a doctor who loves to take good care of her patients. It has also been weeks since Vinci and her became official. Vinci will most of the time visit her after his rounds. Vinici usually helps the soldiers guard the camp. Throughout this time, he shows concern for Caden's student since his student has not arrived yet.

Meanwhile, Jacque's boots crunched through the fallen leaves as she trudged along the path toward the camp. The air was thick with tension and a faint scent of decay, the telltale sign that zombies roamed nearby. With her sword at her side, gleaming in the pale sunlight, she was a force to be reckoned with.

Her journey to the camp had been long and perilous. Her master, a wise old wizard named Caden, had entrusted her with a vital message for someone named Vinci. Jacque had never met Vinci, but Caden spoke of him with great reverence. He claimed Vinci was the key to saving their world from the impending darkness that the zombies heralded.

Jacque's heart pounded as she remembered the gruesome battles she had fought along the way. Waves of zombies had attacked her relentlessly, their rotting hands clawing at her armor. She had swung her sword with precision, each strike a testament to her training as a magic swordmaster. But even her skill was put to the test as fatigue began to set in. Days of continuous combat had taken their toll, and Jacque's movements were slowing.

Then, on the horizon, emerged a group of zombies that was like what she had faced before. They were larger, more muscular, and exuded an aura of malevolence that sent a shiver down her spine. These zombies are called zombhulks. Jacque knew that these were the elites since their crystal color is orange, the ones who were raised from stronger as they evolved through defeating and eating stronger zombies. She fought valiantly, but it became clear that she was outmatched.

Just as Jacque was about to succumb to the onslaught, a figure burst onto the scene like a whirlwind of steel and shadows. The newcomer dispatched the elites with astonishing ease, his movements a deadly dance of finesse and power. He wore a cloak that billowed behind him, his face was white but not pale and her hair was golden that shone when the rays of the sun hit them. When the last elite fell, he turned his gaze toward Jacque.

"Are you alright?" His voice is calm and soothing. A voice that wears Jacque's weariness.

Jacque heaved heavily and said "Thank you. I thought that was the end of me."

The man just smiled "No worries. I am glad that I arrived earlier."

"Where are you heading to?" The man asked her.

Jacque stands up shakes the dirt on her armor and says that she is heading to City C's safe haven and look for Vinci.

"Are you Caden's student by any chance?" Vinci asked her out of curiosity.

Jacque is taken aback that the person knows his master so she assumes that this person is Vinci and asks "Are you Vinci?" as she recalls the name of the person to whom her master ordered her to relay his message.

Together, they continued their journey to the camp as Vinci led the way. Along the way, Vinci told her about the camp, their roles, and the person in charge.

As they finally reached the camp, Jacque's eyes widened. The sight before her was a bustling hub of activity, survivors working together to fortify their defenses and tend to the wounded. She is also amazed by the vegetation inside the camp; it assures their survival. Vinci led her through the camp, and she noticed the respectful nods and whispers that followed in his wake. It was clear that he was a figure of great importance. It is because Vinci has done great things to save the camp.

But what truly surprised Jacque was the photograph Vinci carried. She caught a glimpse of it as it peeked out from beneath his cloak. It was a picture of a person she recognized all too well—a face she had battled before in the ruins of City A. The person had been a formidable foe, a powerful superhuman who had commanded legions of zombies. The picture was stolen by Vinci when they were at David's house. David told Vinci that time that he would look for his family so he took it secretly so that if there's a chance that he will meet them in the future, he can recognize them.

Out of her curiosity, she asked Vinci about the person in the photo. "Do you by chance know the person in the photo?" Vinci answered that the person in the photo was his student and that he courageously travel to City A to look for the resurrection flower to revive him.

Hearing the answer, Jacque stopped herself from telling him that she had fought with him and he was not human. By not being human, she refers to immoral actions as David is commanding the zombies and doing experiments on humans.

A spark of thought makes her remember to take out the letter her master had written and give it to Vinci. "This is what master wants me to pass on to you." she handed the letter.

"I want to inform you Vinci that I happen to encounter your student in City A. He told me that he was informed that you are alive and he is happy about the news. He wants to tell you that he will stay in city A with other superhumans and he does not want you to look for him since he wants to grow himself and become stronger." A smile on Vinci's face stretches as he feels happy to hear that his student is fine and is doing good.

After reading the letter, Vinci introduced Jacque to her girlfriend Jenny, and to General Dan. Afterwards, he led her to her room where she could rest while staying in the camp.

"I can't bring myself to tell him about his student. It is not my responsibility to tell him. I believe that he will learn about it eventually. I need to do the mission that Master gave me for this camp. Who could the mole be?" Jacque talks to herself as she takes off her armor and clothes and enters the bathroom.
