Ron was never to be surprised by anything, and this wasn't after he experienced all the things he did after gaining immortality, but was a trait of his personality since he was a little kid.
It didn't matter if his parents bought him a gift, if his father hit his mother or the opposite when they fought, even when he witnessed a murder right in front of his eyes, all he felt was perhaps disgust and pity amongst some other things… Yet never surprise.
This only got worse after becoming immortal as more things were now knowledgeable to him… Meaning there were fewer things that could surprise him.
The absence of his surprise emotion was perhaps because of a certain belief he had, which was that anything could happen, that he has no control over his life and never will… So better enjoy it, pass it, be sad at it… But to never waste time with useless emotions like surprise.
Being sad or angry releases your frustrations, being happy and excited makes you feel good… But surprise?!?
Ron could never understand the use of being surprised… It merely makes a person more vulnerable and forces them to lose their attention most of the time.
This, alongside some unknown reasons was why Ron never felt surprised even when he was suddenly put into some weird survival game to entertain the Gods… Which on its own sounds very ridiculous like it came straight out of an anime or a novel.
But even then, when staring into the very tall figure in front of the weak small humans, Ron couldn't help but lose all sense of his surroundings… His eyes unlocked broadly as sweat began to drip off his forehead… Other than surprise and shock… The emotion he was feeling the most right now was… Fear!
"H-Ho- How are we meant to fight against!!!!? "
Humans' past advantage was lost alongside their previously high spirits…
Most began to fall into despair as the 7-foot tall goblin started to move towards them…
They had already lost most of their strength and were pretty tired after fighting the normal, small-sized goblins… But now and against the huge, much more terrifying monster slowly approaching their way as if it was enjoying and devouring on their fears, they couldn't help but fall into despair.
"Oh God! Please… I swear I'll never sin ever again-"
"God! What have I done to deserve this?!?! "
"I'm so sorry Rachel! I was too much of a coward to admit my love to you… "
"Th-This can't be happening… No! I can't die… I'm the daughter of the Mayor… This must be some prank or test to see my bravery… Right, that must be it! "
"God!- "
The weak cowards who had done nothing previously in the fight began falling on their knees praying that this is all some kind of dream or perhaps a sick joke… Even some of the brave ones who were fighting just a while ago lost to their fears as they couldn't see a way out of this for the humans alive.
Some praying, some going crazy… Some confessing their love for those they once admired… Humans cried, humans gave up… But not all of them.
'What is this feeling?!? Am I surprised?!? Afraid?!? Astonished??!?? Uggh, it doesn't matter… I need to get out of this state quickly!'
Ron thought to himself as this was getting really dangerous… Though he was immortal, he could still feel pain and if possible he'd rather not know how painful a punch from that thing would be.
He was soon able to release himself out of the pressure the goblin was spreading but before he could make a single move… Something changed the course of battle once again.
"Get out of it people! God won't save… Only you can save you! If you want to survive, then fight… You've been given the power to, so why don't you fight!?!? Fight! Fight for the sake of your survival! Fight for the sake of your children, your wife, your lover! Fight for the sake of humanity!!! Just fight and we can get out of this alive!!! "
"….."
Silence was the only answer to the ice-ability girl… Everyone was silent, even the great goblin stopped in its tracks waiting to see what the outcome of her words would be-though he couldn't understand a word of what she said-.
Her words were simple yet very effective in waking people up… It was either fight or die, there was no God to save them, no hero to be there for them, they were on their own… And if they wanted a slight chance to walk out of here alive to see their loved ones again, then their only option is to fight.
"I- I can't look my father in the eye in heaven and tell him I died without fighting… I can't face him as a coward... I- I'm gonna fight! "
"My spoiled brats still need me to be there for them… Sigh* I guess this old man will fight as well… "
"That's right Rachel, we can still get out of here alive… All we need to do is fight back… "
Though not many were with the idea of fighting, people seemed to obtain the courage of each other when seeing their friends and family willing to fight for them.
Emotions are contagious, perhaps even more than diseases... Fear might spread around quickly but so does pride... Bravery can be caught by others and used to ignite their souls... Just like what was happening now.
At first one person wanted to fight back… One person became two… Two became four and four became 20… Eventually, the whole human side of the arena somehow turned into some kind of poorly organized army as they all began to roar launching a synced attack on the goblins…
"Raaaaah! Kill! Kill! Kill! The more we kill the more of us get to go home! Kill them all!!! "
Something inside the eyes of the humans changed, it was like someone took away their fear replacing it with an uncontrollable bloodlust hiding in the form of self-defence.
Humans became more like long-time warriors than the goblins themselves as they each began to use their recently given ability to take out as many goblins as they could.
Ron sensed something wrong with the situation as it didn't make sense how quickly the humans' emotions changed, it was like they didn't care about their deaths- No… It was like they were being controlled emotionally to not care about their deaths.
Ron's eyes swept over the arena hoping to catch a glimpse of who the person responsible might be… Yet unfortunately he couldn't specifically say who it was as there were many suspicious people amongst the crowd for him to identify the person so quickly.
As the raging humans were charging and slaughtering through the lines of the goblins, the icy girl was in a staring contest with the great goblin as both their eyes didn't leave the other part for even a brief second.
They looked at each other with caution, seemingly waiting for something to happen before they commence their battle.
"Are you sure of this Maggie?!? We won't be able to help you if you're injured nor if you lose! You'll be on your own!!! "
The icy girl, whose who's name was apparently Maggie looked at the man who had just spoken out these words before coldly answering under her breath…
"And my own is all I need… "
