Chapter 1 - Hope For A Miracle

"The inter-house sport is tomorrow, I can no longer wait," a young female girl said to her friends as they made their way to the school eatery.

They were dressed in green and black uniforms with a badge on the left side of their shirts. 'Hero Academia.' was boldly imprinted on the badges.

"Yeah, Elizabeth, I can no longer wait as well," another girl replied.

The girls laughed as they chattered. On their way, just before going into the building, they saw a boy standing by the entrance door.

"Hey, look, it's Alex."

They all turned their attention to the boy who was oblivious of the fact that they were talking about him.

"I hate him for so many reasons," the girl named Elizabeth said and scoffed. "Everything about him speaks bad of him; the fact that he is so weak, poor, stupid, and not-so-good looking. Makes me wanna puke each time I see him."

"I wonder if he's going to pass tomorrow's test," another girl said. She sounded worried about the boy but then Elisabeth hissed.

"If he fails, he's going to leave the Academy for good. Might as well become a cleaner or something else to help himself, tsk."

The girls walked past the boy and went into the building, as they did, Alex glanced at them and saw Elizabeth.

He smiled at her but instead of getting smiled at, the girl hissed and walked away. This got the boy upset that he frowned.

"Still thinking about her, huh?" Someone asked from behind and when he turned, he saw a boy there.

"Peter," he called and tried to smile a bit but the boy could not be deceived.

"You know what, you should stop pretending to me. We've been friends since elementary school, you can not lie to me."

Alex sighed, his friend had caught him. There was no need to continue pretending like everything was fine when nothing is.

"If you're worried about Elizabeth accepting you, then I think you should stop and worry more about tomorrow's inter-house sport. We are not expected to fail the tests, not even one or we will end up driven out of the Academy " Peter told him.

"I am very much aware," Alex replied and frowned the more. "But how am I supposed to pass the tests without having an ability? I don't have even a single one."

"Don't worry, Alex, I'll help you," Peter consoled his friend but that did not help the issue. It did not make the boy less sad.

"Sorry Peter, but I don't think I'll be joining you for lunch," Alex said and turned to leave.

"But why? Did you not tell me you were hungry?" Peter asked, frowning.

"I have lost my appetite," Alex replied. "I'm going back to the hostel, you can join me later," he added and left Peter's side.

As he walked away, he cursed himself inwardly for being incompetent. He had always been a burden to Peter ever since they became friends, sometimes, he wished the boy would grow tired of helping him, of always carrying him along, and just dump him because he had equally grown tired of himself.

Some years ago, monsters suddenly appeared on Earth and began to cause havoc, as if that was not enough, villains also appeared, threatening the lives of people. Everyday, the numbers of villains grew even larger than the numbers of monsters in the world and the people's lives were at stake.

To find a solution, some individuals devised many plans that will help them, and after so many researches, one came. A bizarre plan, they called it then. Many were against it since it was against the order of nature but because the rate of death in the world increased daily, they decided to go ahead with it.

They extracted the blood of monsters and injected them into humans and after many days, these humans began to develop special traits and they called it ability.

These humans were able use abilities belonging to monsters and fight both the monsters and the villains terrorizing people. The first humans gave birth, and the abilities were passed down to their offsprings, thereby, creating a world of special individuals called the heroes.

Unfortunately, one day, someone emerged as the world strongest villain, he was born with dual abilities, something that has never happened before. He caused havoc, destroying almost an entire country... His reign continued for a while until one day, he disappeared without a trace. But before he left, he promised that he would return to wipe out the remaining world's population.

After this, an idea was made and that was to build a place for training young people so as to get them prepared for the future battle against the strongest villain and his cohorts.

Alex was unfortunately born without an ability and being born into a family of heroes, people could not help but ridicule him, calling him a jinx. His father however loves him unconditionally and using his power as one of the S-class rated heroes on the list, he enrolled him into the heroes academy with hopes of giving him a bright future.

Still, nothing was working well for him. His classmates avoided him, no one really wanted to have anything to do with him. Life could have been hellish for him if he didn't have Peter, his best friend to be with him.

Peter helped him with virtually everything, helping pass his practical tests, helping on other matters... The boy has always been good to him but now, he was getting tired of it.

Peter's parents were also heroes, they use the fire ability as such, he also had the fire ability. In the Academy, he was not only famous for being the only child of the S-class rated heroes but also for his handsomeness and intelligence.

This was a contrast of who he was. Sometimes, he finds himself envying him and wishing he could just be him even if it was only for a day.

As he walked back to his hostel, he cried inwardly and wished a miracle would happen. Tomorrow will determine if he was ready to be a hero just like his parents. If he fails, not only will he be chased out of the Academy, he will become a disgrace to the hero world, a dent to his family, and will be ridiculed by every one.

If a miracle does not happen, he might end up giving up on life.
